Quitting protein powderRachel Hosie tried to hit her protein target while avoiding ultra-processed food. For one week, Hosie attempted to hit her daily protein goal of 110 to 130 grams without consuming ultra-processed foods like protein bars.

How much is too much to spend on jeans?

Of course, there were the aghast social media comments, those are to be expected, but the moment also inspired a reasonable question: How much is too much to spend on jeans? These jeans are something of an outlier, having been designed — undoubtedly — with celebrities and the 1% in mind. Cheaper options are plentiful across the market — from classic $100 Levi’s to newer denim brands, such as MUD Jeans or ELV Denim, emphasizing their sustainable or circular credentials (jeans in this category tend to be priced around $200 to $500.) A brief buyer’s guideNew York-based stylist and newsletter author Becky Malinsky wearing Auralee jeans. “I feel, personally, there are many sustainable brands out there that are producing a really good pair of jeans for around $150 to $200.

On a recent trip to Sephora, 11-year-old Lincoln Rivera asked his mom for a $125 atomizer of Yves Saint Laurent eau de parfum. He also covets scents from Jean Paul Gaultier, which he learned about from the animated movie “Megamind,” and Paco Rabanne (some of its cologne bottles are shaped like robots). “I feel fine about how I smell,” said Lincoln, a fifth grader in Westchester County, N.Y., whose olfactory experimentation has so far been limited to deodorant. “But I could smell even better.”Abby Rivera, Lincoln’s mother, first thought the designer scents sounded like overkill for her son to wear to elementary school. She was surprised by his sudden interest until she heard that some of his hockey teammates had also been asking their parents for high-end cologne, too.

Street Style Levels Up to Couture

Couture week is by no means an outlier on the fashion calendar. But this season, the shows seemed to really find their stride with a dialogue that was consistent between the runway and the streets. Street style was especially inspiring with an elegance that departed from the more subdued looks we saw last summer. The inspiration was particularly felt at Jean Paul Gaultier, where the guest designer Simone Rocha debuted her first couture collection. As for Schiaparelli, the show — packed with its usual wall-to-wall celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya — opened with a model carrying a sparkly robot baby.

The newest offshoot of the looksmaxxing subcuture is smellmaxxing, which involves mostly men trying to improve their smell with different colognes among other hygiene tips. "Megamind caught smellmaxxing," on-screen text said in a TikTok from December, which amassed over 3.5 million views. Other creators have jumped on the trend with jokes: One urged others to "start smellmaxxing bro" while shooting cologne mists into the night sky. On another popular video tagged #smellmaxxing, a poster showed their massive cologne collection: "Once you start.. you can't stop," they wrote on-screen. "When you took scentmaxxing too far," @lordoffragrances wrote on-screen with a skull emoji.

“I don’t know what the hell I was doing wearing this.”But Chalamet has long relied on the wow factor of a shirtless suit for red carpet engagements. Chalamet's magenta velvet suit was from Tom Ford's latest collection. Jean-Paul Gaultier's "Pin Up Boys" from the 1996 season were early examples of the shirtless suit on the runway. In Gaultier’s infamous Spring-Summer 1996 collection, titled “Pin-Up Boys,” the shirtless suit was gauche, cheesy and even funny. For Chalamet, shirtlessness is fast becoming a state of mind.

The two men became friends at Syracuse University in the late 1980s. The hunt for vintage became their obsession. In those days, secondhand meant second-rate to much of the fashion set, and the duo saw themselves as downtown entrepreneurs whose mission it was to preach the gospel of vintage. “The stigma was that people felt it was beneath them to buy something used,” Mr. Weisser said, “but we saw wearing vintage as giving someone individuality.”Their first regulars included Jean Paul Gaultier and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Stylists for “Sex and the City” found outfits there for the show’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, who became a client herself.

That was where, as golden hour set in, a magic Valentino show began — with Kaia Gerber in a pair of jeans and a white shirt. Granted, they weren’t just any jeans: they were made from silk gazar entirely embroidered in micro beads dyed 80 different shades of indigo to resemble denim, but still. They looked like jeans. Jeans — or their very fancy doppelgängers — have been the biggest trend of the week. There were more jeans, likewise made from trompe l’oeil beading, in the Jean Paul Gaultier collection guest designed by Julien Dossena, and lots of jeans in all stages of distress at Balenciaga, which also were not denim at all but oil-painted canvas that took two and a half months to create.

There has been a lot of head-turning fashion on the French Riviera lately. Though some of it was spotted on guests at the Monaco Grand Prix (hello Bad Bunny in torso-hugging Jean Paul Gaultier), much of it came from the Cannes Film Festival, which ended on Saturday. There were a lot of outfits that caught our attention during the almost two-week festival, including Jennifer Lawrence’s red Dior gown and flip-flops (most comfortable! ); Naomi Campbell’s Valentino dress and flowing pink feathered cape (most ethereal! But the 20 looks on this list stood out more than most.

CNN —As a nod to late designer Karl Lagerfeld’s penchant for pearls, Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala look was drenched in them. So we wanted to just be dripping in pearls,” Kardashian said of her custom Schiaparelli ensemble on Vogue’s livestream from the red carpet in New York Monday night. Her 2021 Met Gala look wasn’t any less provocative; she wore a “faceless” Balenciaga gown that completely covered her in black from head to toe. “THEY’RE VERY NICE, inspiring weirdos.” That’s how Louis Vuitton women’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière describes his fashion-industry peers. Growing up in France’s relatively remote Loire Valley, Mr. Ghesquière, 51, dreamed of being one such weirdo. He’d watch fashion programs on TV, special-order magazines with his mother and customize friends’ clothes. “As a kid [fashion] was my way of expressing myself,” recalled the Paris-based designer. Since 2013, he’s been at Vuitton, whose new spring 2023 collection was shown in Paris earlier this month at the Louvre Museum’s Cour Carrée.
