The Medical Investigator’s Office, part of the University of New Mexico Health System, used to recover only a handful of bodies a year. First responders, elected officials and advocates in New Mexico attribute the spike in deaths largely to Texas Gov. An army of political propaganda accounts powered by artificial intelligence posed as real people on X to argue in favor of Republican candidates and causes, according to a research report out of Clemson University. The network identified by the Clemson researchers included at least 686 identified X accounts that have posted more than 130,000 times since January. Many of the accounts were removed from X after NBC News emailed the platform for comment. In Arizona’s Republican congressional primary, the accounts supported Blake Masters over Abraham Hamadeh. Zelig Williams was last seen on October 3 at his home in Columbia, South Carolina, according to a statement from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The family filed a missing person report the following day after the 28-year-old failed to contact them, the department said. Minutes later, Williams’ friends in New York received a concerning message from his iPhone, Corbett-Jacobs said.
