CNN —A good stretch of the popular and winding Blue Ridge Parkway is now reopened for safe motoring and scenic fall viewing following Hurricane Helene. The parkway reopened on Friday from milepost 0 to milepost 198 in Virginia, the National Park Service said in a news release. The reopening includes 198 miles (319 kilometers) of the scenic byway from Shenandoah National Park south to Virginia Route 685 - Skyview Drive/Turkey Ridge Road, near the town of Fancy Gap, the Thursday news release said. The NPS aims to reopen the rest of the parkway in Virginia within two weeks, the release said. “Due to the hard work of the Blue Ridge Parkway crews, we are able to open nearly 200 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia, a vital and scenic route that both embodies the natural beauty and cultural heritage of our region,” Tracy Swartout, superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway, said in the release.

CNN —A giant panda at a South Korean zoo has given birth to the country’s first twin cubs. The palm-sized female pandas were born at the Everland Resort theme park southeast of the capital Seoul on July 7, the zoo said in a statement Tuesday. The twins’ birth is considered rare – there’s less than a 50% chance of pandas giving birth to twins – and in the wild, they struggle to survive as mothers can often only care for one of their cubs. A caretaker carries panda cub Fu Bao, about 100 days after her birth in 2020. It is estimated that around 1,800 pandas remain in the wild, mostly in the mountains of Sichuan, western China.

In 2019, real-estate agents and brothers Tal and Oren Alexander sold a $240 million condo. That's the Alexander brothers' unofficial mantra. In 2015, Griffin dropped $46.4 million on an abstract painting by Gerhard Richter, putting him in the Alexanders' crosshairs. Tal wouldn't reveal how he acquired Griffin's cell phone number, Clarke noted, but one of the writer's sources said he bought it from a former FBI agent. But Griffin wasn't interested in the penthouse Tal had in mind for him.
