As a long-married romantic myself, steeped in statistics suggesting that marriage correlates with happiness, I found that sad. My readers, not so much. KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli airstrikes pounded locations across the Gaza Strip early Thursday, including parts of the south that Israel had declared safe zones, heightening fears among more than 2 million Palestinians trapped in the territory that nowhere was safe. Hamas officials in Gaza blamed an Israeli airstrike, saying hundreds were killed. Airstrikes also hit three residential towers in al-Zahra, within the area that was told to evacuate, the Interior Ministry in Gaza said. Egypt must still repair the road across the border, which was cratered by Israeli airstrikes. He also announced $100 million in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Procter & Gamble on Wednesday reported quarterly earnings and revenue that topped analysts' expectations, despite volume falling for the sixth consecutive quarter. The company's organic revenue increased 7% in the quarter, helped by higher prices for P&G's products. But the company's volume shrank 1%. The company now projects revenue growth of 2% to 4%, rather than its prior forecast of 3% to 4%. P&G reiterated its full-year forecast for organic revenue growth, which strips out the impact of acquisitions, divestitures and foreign currency, and for earnings per share growth.

WASHINGTON, Aug 10 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The United States may be over the hump on inflation, but consumers aren’t acting like it. Lingering restraint will stretch the power of price elasticity to its limits. Similarly, PepsiCo’s (PEP.O) 14% increase in North American prices of Mountain Dew, Tropicana orange juice and other beverages cost it 4% in quarterly sales. Strong appetites for Oreos and Wheat Thins lifted Mondelez International’s (MDLZ.O) sales 2% in the United States, Canada and Mexico, even as prices climbed 10%. They have climbed 3.5% from a year earlier, surpassing the 3.2% annual increase in the Consumer Price Index.

Cramer says don't get too caught up in top-down analysis

CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors on Monday not to solely rely on analysts' top-down, broad market assessments. According to Cramer, it's imperative to also pay attention to micro-analysis of a company's performance when buying individual stocks. "After all these years, I've come to know one immutable truth: There's no monopoly on stock market knowledge," Cramer said. Top-down analysts, Cramer said, might fixate on how the Federal Reserve's rate hikes might affect the company. Cramer stressed that he is not just "cherry-picking" names and instead said there are many companies that often defy macro expectations.

But the company released a gloomy outlook for its fiscal 2024 sales that fell short of Wall Street's estimates. For fiscal 2024, P&G is forecasting that its revenue will grow 3% to 4%, lower than Wall Street's expectations of 4.5% sales growth. For roughly two years, P&G has been raising prices on its products to mitigate higher commodity costs. In fiscal 2024, P&G expects its volume will start increasing again, and prices will only rise 1% to 1.5%. The division, which includes Oral-B and Pepto-Bismol, scared off North American customers with its higher prices, according to P&G.

Consumer stocks Constellation Brands (STZ) and Procter & Gamble (PG) were the subjects of Wall Street scrutiny Thursday.
