The models cut through the centre of the sprawling space of the Grand Palais Ephemere exhibit hall in central Paris, parading tweed skirt sets with uneven hems, patchwork ensembles and lightweight dresses that trailed down in the back. An Arianespace mission on Dec. 20 carrying two Airbus (AIR.PA) Defence & Space satellites failed around two and a half minutes into flight when an anomaly occurred with the Zefiro 40 motor used by the Vega C rockets. A task force led by ESA and Avio is working on implementing the recommendations of the enquiry panel, Avio added. Italy's Vega C rocket is due to play an increasingly crucial role in Europe's access to space after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine forced launch firm Arianespace to stop using Russian Soyuz vehicles.

"At the IPC General Assembly in Bahrain, IPC members voted 74-65 (13 abstentions) against a motion to fully suspend NPC (National Paralympic Committee) Russia for breaches of its constitutional membership obligations," the IPC said. The decision comes two weeks before the International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai where it will also discuss Russia's and Belarus' participation at the Paris Olympics next year. The IPC had last year suspended the paralympic committees of both countries and banned their athletes from competing following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The IOC has not sanctioned the Russian or Belarus Olympic Committee or Russian members of the IOC. In March, however, it issued a first set of recommendations for international sports federations to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to return.

Copernicus is a set of six families of Sentinel satellites designed to read the planet's "vital signs" including carbon dioxide. But following Thursday's agreement, Director General Josef Aschbacher said the deal would allow UK scientists and industry to benefit fully from one of Europe's leading space programmes. The agreement is a boost for satellite manufacturers including Europe's Airbus (AIR.PA), France' Thales (TCFP.PA) and Germany's OHB (OHBG.DE) that had been awarded contracts to build the new set of satellites subject in part to an EU funding deal.

Europe's third traditional path to space, the Russian Soyuz programme, was interrupted last year amid the breakdown in East-West relations following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Investigators blamed the launch failure on a faulty engine part and a fresh probe was launched in June after the failure of a ground test. Aschbacher said the timing of Vega C's return to operation would be set after the commission reports later this month.

The 22-nation agency said it had selected former British Paralympic sprinter John McFall as part of a new generation of 17 recruits picked for astronaut training. He will join five new career astronauts and 11 reserves in training after ESA replenished its astronaut ranks for the first time since 2009. It received 257 applications for the role of astronaut with a disability, a parallel role that it terms "parastronaut".
