CNN —The Justice Department has filed a civil lawsuit against the real estate company RealPage, alleging the company’s software uses landlord data to artificially inflate the price of rent across the United States by quelling competition in the market. According to the complaint, the Texas-based company uses nonpublic data from landlords to train RealPage’s algorithm for pricing recommendations, creating a “vast scheme to subvert the competitive process,” one Justice Department official said. The lawsuit from the Justice Department comes amid a rise in corporate landlords – companies that own large numbers of rental units – a fact that was central to the case. “In a free market, these landlords would otherwise be competing independently to attract renters based on pricing, discounts, concessions, lease terms, and other dimensions of apartment leasing,” the Justice Department said in announcing the charges. “RealPage also uses this scheme and its substantial data trove to maintain a monopoly in the market for commercial revenue management software.”This is a developing story.

Trump after her text messages became public in 2017, attended Mr. Perez’s hearing in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. They scuttled House Speaker Mike Johnson’s plan to extend the FISA Section 702 program with minimal tweaks. It is true that the FBI obtained warrants through FISA to wiretap Carter Page, an adviser to Trump’s first presidential campaign. According to the National Security Agency, 60% of what appears in the Presidential Daily Brief has some data that comes from the 702 program. The 702 program has been updated in the years since its inception, including in 2018, to include new protections to minimize Americans’ communications from being accessed without a warrant. Additionally, these proposals would bar the government from sidestepping warrant requirements by simply buying the data of Americans from so-called data brokers.

Twelve years on, the fighter from London will make his UFC debut against Kevin Holland on March 9 at UFC 299. “But the fighting style, I’d say that comes from, it’s part of my personality. I love to dance, love to smile, just loud, a bit more like outgoing.”Page is hoping a UFC welterweight title fight against Leon Edwards could happen in the future. While some of his family members gave up competitive fighting as the years went by, Page stuck with it. And I don’t think it’s happened before, two UK fighters fighting for a UFC title,” said Page.

London CNN —After more than half a century, the identity of the elderly, stick-carrying man featured on the “Led Zeppelin IV” album cover has finally been revealed. The “Stick Man” who featured on the cover of English rock band Led Zeppelin’s 1971 fourth studio album was a thatcher from the late-Victorian era, the Wiltshire Museum in southwestern England said in a statement Wednesday. Led Zeppelin members (left - right) John Paul Jones, John Bonham, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant pose in front of their private airliner The Starship in 1973. This colored version was the only feature on the “Led Zeppelin IV” album cover, which, unusually, had no words on it, not even the band’s name. “It is fascinating to see how this theme of rural and urban contrasts was developed by Led Zeppelin and became the focus for this iconic album cover 70 years later,” the museum’s director, David Dawson, said in the statement.

“Backpage was viewed in law enforcement as the most cooperative site,” said Bruce Feder, the attorney for former executive vice-president Spear. But under Backpage CEO Carl Ferrer, the standards used to screen for potential prostitution ads were not clear, attorney David Eisenberg said. Prosecutors say Backpage’s operators ignored warnings to stop running prostitution ads, some involving children. Authorities say Backpage employees would aggregate more users by identifying prostitutes through Google searches, then call and offer them a free ad. Backpage’s operators said they never allowed ads for sex and used people and automated tools to try to delete such ads.

In his junior year, he took 248 trips to the plate and struck out only three times. LePage never made it past Class A in the minor leagues, but a few guys in the majors still remember him fondly. “He could foul the ball straight back during batting practice on command,” Ahmed said. “Just a different level of bat control.”Like many college standouts, LePage could not find his footing in pro ball. Over the last decade, as teams have chased exit velocity and the long ball, the value of such high-contact, low-impact hitters has tanked.

Satellite images captured fires in Quebec spreading rapidly throughout June 2 and experts have attributed these fires to documented weather conditions. A YouTube video pulled out multiple hours of footage from a website showing satellite imagery of Quebec, from June 1 to the end of June 2 (here). Moreover, wildfire experts contacted by Reuters said that given the combination of various weather conditions, this fire activity witnessed on June 2 was not unexpected. It features a green marker at the bottom that speeds through multiple hours of satellite footage when pressing play. James, a comedian, is one of the posters behind the Instagram page Chaotic Hong Kong Expats. But the age of social media has catapulted the activity into public consciousness with a wave of begpacking-shaming Instagram accounts and Facebook pages. “Hong Kong is a very expensive place to live and the average (monthly) wage is 15,000 Hong Kong dollars ($1,915). Viral social media photos of begpackers in places like Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong have been appearing on social media in recent months, re-igniting debate over the issue. “I think it kind of represents the growing arena of location-independent tourists blurring boundaries between leisure and work,” says Bernstein.

“While respect for human rights is unquestionably a high priority, we have many other equities at stake,” McCulley wrote. He said the focus on human rights had sent relations between the two countries into the “lowest ebb” in his three years there. Nigeria’s human rights record wasn’t only a moral issue – it was a legal one. Working under these laws provided “openings to incentivise and institutionalise” human rights protections within the Nigerian military, the State Department said. The pact also noted that London and Abuja had agreed on an “enhanced human rights dialogue” to ensure compliance with international rights standards.
Attorneys for the alleged gunman in the deadly shooting at an LGBTQ club in Colorado said in court filings the suspect is nonbinary and uses “they” and “them” pronouns. In court appearances this week, Aldrich’s lawyers and District Attorney Michael Allen used he/him pronouns for Aldrich, but Aldrich’s attorneys referred to their client as “Mx. It’s unclear whether the public defenders were accidentally using he/him pronouns for Aldrich, and their office has not returned a request for comment. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said, regarding the suspect’s pronouns, “The defendant will be identified as the defendant throughout proceedings,” but declined to comment further on both legal teams using he/him pronouns for Aldrich in court. Holt said the response from Carlson is another part of why he believes it’s worth questioning the suspect’s claim.
CNN —Kittyhawk, the electric air taxi startup backed by Google co-founder Larry Page, announced Wednesday that it plans to “wind down” operations. Kittyhawk had the lofty mission of “building autonomous, affordable, ubiquitous and eco-conscious air taxis,” according to its website. The company launched other electric aircraft prototypes and announced a partnership with Boeing in 2019. In a tweet, Wisk said that it remains “in a strong financial position,” with both Boeing and Kittyhawk as investors. Like Kittyhawk, Wisk is developing an “all-electric, self-flying air taxi” that it says “rises like a helicopter and flies like a plane,” according to its website.
Kittyhawk, a startup backed by Google co-founder Larry Page that was working on developing air taxis, said it is winding down its business. “We’re still working on the details of what’s next,” the company said Wednesday in a two-sentence post on LinkedIn.
Social media users have been sharing a fake screenshot of a GOV.UK webpage, which falsely states that the Cabinet Office is proposing a ban on trade unions, as well as considering the introduction of “a 996 working hour system”. The Act (here), also known as TULCRA, defines and governs the roles of trade unions, including in relation to collective bargaining and industrial action (tmsnrt.rs/3RNWUOa). The 996 working hour system refers to the idea of working between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., six days a week. A government-led proposal to ban trade unions would likely generate widespread news reports; however, Reuters found no sign of any such articles (bit.ly/3UaVG1g). The screenshot has been digitally altered and there are currently no UK Government proposals to ban trade unions or introduce a 996 working hour system.

Murdoch family, 1987: Lachlan, James, Anna and Rupert. The second season of HBO’s “Succession,” whose fictional media family, the Roys, bears a striking resemblance to the Murdochs, airs this summer. ‘A press dictatorship’To understand how the Murdoch empire works, it is essential to return to its origins. The bigger Murdoch’s empire became, the more power he had to clear away obstacles to further its expansion. Like his father, Lachlan considered the idea of meddling with such an important profit driver a form of madness.
