Jordan Hart/BII was impressed by Math Notes when Apple first demonstrated it at WWDC, but it was unclear which phase of Apple Intelligence it would be included in. There's also the Tips appIf you can't make it to an Apple store for a rundown, there's always the Tips app with a section on Apple Intelligence. I went through it while first exploring Apple Intelligence, but the hands-on demo in a store gave me some more details.

Opinion | No Grandchildren in Their Lives

To the Editor:Re “Sunset Years in Silent Houses: The Despair of No Grandchildren” (front page, Nov. 12):I appreciated Catherine Pearson’s reporting on people’s feelings about not becoming grandparents, but I have an important contrasting perspective. I am a 68-year-old woman whose two children plan not to have children. As a geologist, I know that climate change is real, human-caused and accelerating. As an animal lover, I can’t look at a squirrel, bird or butterfly without knowing that all species, including ours, carry forever chemicals and nanoplastics in their bodies. Rather than helping to raise grandchildren, I am spending my time volunteering in efforts to keep the planet habitable for future generations — other elders’ future generations.

Here are eight health claims — with little or no scientific evidence to back them up — that Oz made over the years. Green coffee extract, the ‘magic weight loss cure’In 2014, Oz went to Washington to seek help fighting internet marketers who were using his name and image to sell weight loss products. Senators provided several examples from Oz’s own show, but much of the hearing focused on his claims about green coffee bean extract. The BMJ study from 2014 found that the majority of Oz’s health recommendations touched on nutrition and dietary advice. (The research shows no evidence that HCG is an effective weight loss tool.)

A woman who had accused the mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor of raping her in a hotel penthouse in 2018 was awarded nearly 250,000 euros, or about $260,000, in damages on Friday after a jury found him liable for sexual assault in a civil trial in Dublin. Mr. McGregor was previously the subject of a criminal investigation in Ireland, his home country, in connection with the allegations, but was not charged. After the verdict on Friday, the woman, Nikita Hand, spoke outside the courthouse, her hands shaking as she read from a page of remarks. She said she hoped the outcome would send a message to victims of sexual assault to “speak up.”“You have a voice,” she said. The allegations have dogged Mr. McGregor, a star fighter known as Notorious who has been credited with helping to popularize mixed martial arts and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, or U.F.C., and who remains a major figure among fans even though it has been three years since his last fight.

The revelations highlight the rising cyberthreats tied to geopolitics and nation-state actor rivals of the U.S., but inside the federal government, there's disagreement on how to fight back, with some advocates calling for the creation of an independent federal U.S. Cyber Force. Talent shortages, inconsistent training, and misaligned missions, are undermining CYBERCOM's capacity to respond effectively to complex cyber threats, it says. Known for his assertive national security measures, Trump's 2018 National Cyber Strategy emphasized embedding cyber capabilities across all elements of national power and focusing on cross-departmental coordination and public-private partnerships rather than creating a standalone cyber entity. Austin Berglas, a former head of the FBI's cyber program in New York who worked on consolidation efforts inside the Bureau, believes a separate cyber force could enhance U.S. capabilities by centralizing resources and priorities. "When I first took over the [FBI] cyber program … the assets were scattered," said Berglas, who is now the global head of professional services at supply chain cyber defense company BlueVoyant.

The Department of Justice is calling for Google to divest its Chrome browser, following a ruling in August that the company holds a monopoly in the search market. Chrome, which Google launched in 2008, provides the search giant with data it then uses for targeting ads. Additionally, the DOJ said that Google be prevented from entering into exclusionary agreements with third parties like Apple and Samsung. In August, a federal judge ruled that Google holds a monopoly in the search market. Last month, the DOJ indicated it was considering a breakup of Google businesses, including potentially breaking up its Chrome, Play or Android divisions.

The two have now shed some light on what Trump has called the Department of Government Efficiency plans to do. They appear to be taking a page from Musk’s playbook for extreme cost-cutting. “We won’t just write reports or cut ribbons,” Musk and Ramaswamy wrote in an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal, addressing skepticism that their initiative, known as DOGE, can achieve. President-elect Donald J. Trump quickly swept aside Thursday’s bad headlines about Matt Gaetz by speedily substituting Pam Bondi, a fellow Florida Republican with a starkly different profile — but a similar reputation for fealty — to be his attorney general. Ms. Bondi, 59, is a lobbyist and Trump loyalist who served as Florida’s attorney general from 2011 to 2019. She has charted a more conventional and less clamorous course than Mr. Gaetz, with little of the ugly personal or political baggage that led some Republicans to oppose Mr. Gaetz’s nomination. Ms. Bondi, the daughter of the mayor of a small Tampa-area municipality, began working as an assistant state attorney in Hillsborough County in the 1990s. During 18 years as a prosecutor, she tried cases “ranging from domestic violence to capital murder,” according to the bio page at her lobbying firm.

Police officers in Trenton, N.J., systematically violate the constitutional rights of the city’s citizens, conduct illegal searches and needlessly escalate peaceful interactions into violence, the U.S. Department of Justice found in a report published Thursday. In one event described in the 45-page report, police officers encountered an unarmed man as he ran shirtless around a hospital parking lot. The man cried, “I can’t breathe,” and, “I’m going to die.” After more than four minutes, he grew still, the report said. The man was not identified, but the details match the case of Stephen Dolceamore, 29, of Springfield, Pa., which was reported by NJ Advance Media.
