I am a 68-year-old woman whose two children plan not to have children. As a geologist, I know that climate change is real, human-caused and accelerating. As an animal lover, I can’t look at a squirrel, bird or butterfly without knowing that all species, including ours, carry forever chemicals and nanoplastics in their bodies. Rather than helping to raise grandchildren, I am spending my time volunteering in efforts to keep the planet habitable for future generations — other elders’ future generations.

And now, an extremely rare first edition of his most famous work, the political manual “The Prince,” is going up for auction, with an expected sale price of up to £300,000 ($375,000). The copy of the early 16th-century book is one of only 11 first editions to be recorded, according to auction house Sotheby’s. The book was printed in 1532 and bound with Machiavelli's "Florentine Histories" in an Italian binding, according to Sotheby's. Heaton said the auction house is “delighted” and “excited” to offer the “incredibly rare book” at Sotheby’s in London in its next Books & Manuscripts auction, which runs from November 28 to December 12. The political treatise, dedicated to Florentine ruler Lorenzo di Piero de’ Medici, was circulated as a manuscript before Machiavelli’s death in 1527.

The Department of Justice is calling for Google to divest its Chrome browser, following a ruling in August that the company holds a monopoly in the search market. Chrome, which Google launched in 2008, provides the search giant with data it then uses for targeting ads. Additionally, the DOJ said that Google be prevented from entering into exclusionary agreements with third parties like Apple and Samsung. In August, a federal judge ruled that Google holds a monopoly in the search market. Police officers in Trenton, N.J., systematically violate the constitutional rights of the city’s citizens, conduct illegal searches and needlessly escalate peaceful interactions into violence, the U.S. Department of Justice found in a report published Thursday. In one event described in the 45-page report, police officers encountered an unarmed man as he ran shirtless around a hospital parking lot. The man cried, “I can’t breathe,” and, “I’m going to die.” After more than four minutes, he grew still, the report said. The man was not identified, but the details match the case of Stephen Dolceamore, 29, of Springfield, Pa., which was reported by NJ Advance Media. He died on April 3, 2020, seven weeks before George Floyd was murdered by police officers in Minneapolis.
