Can HBO’s ‘The Idol’ Bring Back ’80s Sleaze?

The first episode begins with the pop star Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp, baring her breasts during a photo shoot as a team of handlers, crew members and an ineffectual intimacy coordinator look on. There will be no flannel PJs for Joss; a pair of wake-up scenes make it clear to viewers that she sleeps in a thong. It isn’t only the show’s gratuitous nudity that harks back to Mr. Lyne and company, but the overall look and mood, which recall a louche glamour from the time of boxy Armani suits and cocaine nights. A main setting is a $70 million mansion in Bel Air that looks like something out of Mr. De Palma’s “Scarface” but is in fact Mr. Tesfaye’s real-life home. A number of young viewers have said they find sex scenes embarrassing, but Mr. Levinson, who created the HBO drama “Euphoria,” and his fellow producers have made no secret of their desire to pay homage to the heyday of Cinemax (when it had the nickname Skinemax).

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Reuters) - The Malaysian government is re-evaluating a $3.9 billion settlement deal reached between the previous administration and U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs (GS.N) over the 1MDB financial scandal, state news agency Bernama reported on Monday. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday a government taskforce looking into 1MDB issues was scrutinising the 2020 deal with Goldman, adding that it was a matter of recovering public funds, Bernama reported. "I agree (with a review) because from the start, I felt the settlement agreement was done hastily which led to many questions being raised," Anwar was quoted as saying by Bernama. Goldman had helped 1MDB raise $6.5 billion in two bond offerings, earning itself $600 million in fees, according to the U.S. Justice Department. Since taking office last November, Anwar has sought to review previous governments' decisions on 1MDB in a bid to recoup money embezzled from the fund.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced recently that employees would be expected to return to the office three days a week in the spring. In less than a week, 14,000 employees had joined the Slack channel and a petition started circulating, demanding the company retract the policy. General Motors, Starbucks, Apple and Twitter are among other big companies that have started calling employees back to the office. Employees resist RTO mandatesEmployers are doing their best to really sell RTO, marketing it to employees using words like collaboration, socialization and free snacks. Employees are a lot happier if they work from home one or two days a week so that boosts recruitment and retention.
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Abu Dhabi's International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC) and its unit Aabar Investments PJS have agreed to pay $1.8 billion to settle a legal dispute over the scandal at Malaysian state fund 1MDB, Malaysia's finance ministry said on Monday. Malaysia in 2018 had filed a challenge in a London court against a settlement agreement between 1MDB and IPIC that had been negotiated a year earlier during the premiership of former leader Najib Razak. Najib was sentenced to 12 years in jail last year after being found guilty in a 1MDB-related corruption case. In its challenge, Malaysia had argued that the 2017 settlement was procured by fraud. Malaysia's 1MDB is the subject of corruption and money-laundering investigations in at least six countries.
Movie theaters aren't dying — they're evolving

As the space contracts, cinema operators are investing in the basics, improving sounds, picture quality and seating as well as in bolstering its food and beverage offerings, events and alternative programming. While cinema operators are pleased that studio production has increased, they are no longer taking audiences for granted. Over the last few years, movie theater operators have been removing traditional digital projectors and installing laser units, citing cost savings over time and a better picture quality for moviegoers. Many theater operators told CNBC they are planning similar upgrades to sound systems, saying they have partnered with companies like Dolby to bring quality speakers into their auditoriums. So far in 2023, that premium ticket average is higher — $17.33 each — because so many moviegoers saw Disney's "Avatar: The Way of Water" in premium formats and 3D.
Private Jet Services filed a lawsuit against Twitter over an unpaid bill of nearly $200,000 last December. On Tuesday, Twitter said that the jet company overcharged it and the flights were unauthorized. It also frequently referred in the documents to being billed $194,000 by Private Jet Services, but did not explain the discrepancy in figures. Twitter says that it believes the jet company breached this agreement over "designated representatives," and as such the lawsuit should be dismissed. Private Jet Services and Twitter did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider.

A private jet company sued Twitter, alleging breach of contract and failure to pay for two flights. The flights were "urgent" and authorized ahead of Elon Musk's takeover, the lawsuit said. The publication was the first to report on PJS' lawsuit against Twitter, which was filed in the US District Court of New Hampshire. The private jet company later sent Twitter a bill for the two flights in early November, but alleges Twitter never paid. PJS said Twitter breached its contract by refusing to pay "under circumstances that make it reasonable for PJS to expect payment."

Recognizing that all-day “casual comfort” is now an acceptable sartorial standard, even for adults, kids’ clothing seller The Children’s Place is going full-on into grown-up wear. The retailer on Wednesday launched a new sleepwear and loungwear brand called PJ Place that specifically targets Millennials and Gen Zers. PJ Place products, priced at $10.95 to $69.95, include pajama sets, robes, thermal sets, graphic tees, socks and slippers for young adults and older shoppers. PJ PlaceTo that end, Markee said PJ Place aims to expand the company’s market share in the adult sleepwear and loungewear space overall. Going after the adult sleepwear and loungewear market is a smart move, said Maria Rugolo, apparel industry analyst with market research form NPD.
