The type of bacteria that has been implicated in this outbreak is E. coli O157:H7. E. coli, or Escherichia coli, is a common type of bacteria that lives in the intestines of people and animals, but some E. coli can make people sick. For E. coli O157:H7, antibiotics are controversial and are generally not recommended based on some evidence that they can actually increase the risk of hemolytic uremic syndrome,” he said. Thoroughly cooking meat to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit throughout kills E. coli O157:H7, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

The Myloplus genus falls within the Serrasalmidae fish family, which is made up of piranha and pacu species. When a journalist is killed, it is not just their voice that is silenced: Press freedom is your freedom. Over 30 years ago, the United Nations recognized May 3 as World Press Freedom Day: a global reminder of the importance of press freedom and an opportunity to assess its health around the world. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) found that at least 100 journalists and media workers have been killed since we last marked World Press Freedom Day. Tragically, on this World Press Freedom Day, our work is needed more than ever. On this World Press Freedom Day, the fallen who gave their lives for the truth should serve as a reminder as to why press freedom is really your freedom.

The U.K.'s "sluggish" growth prospects have put it on course to be the worst-performing economy of all advanced nations next year, according to new forecasts from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The downbeat prediction comes as the global economy shows signs of recovery, with growth forecast to remain steady at 3.1% in 2024, before rising modestly to 3.2% in 2025. "We start seeing some recovery in many parts of the world," Alvaro Pereira, director of the OECD's policy studies branch, told CNBC's Silvia Amaro Thursday. Growth among advanced nations next year is set to be led by North America, which Pereira said follows "strong growth" forecasts of 2.6% in the U.S. in 2024. Growth in Europe, meanwhile, is expected to pick up next year after a sluggish 2024.
