With a market value of over $3 trillion, Nvidia is worth more than most countries’ entire economies. All that demand for Nvidia chips surely must’ve increased competition, right? All that means is demand for Nvidia chips isn’t going away any time soon but that competition will continue to grow more fierce. Before we know it, another company with a name most people can’t pronounce will be referred to as the next Nvidia.

Nvidia has been a cash cow for retail investors lucky enough to buy before the huge AI-fueled rally. Early retail investors told Business Insider their gains have paid for cars, vacations, and dream homes. The stock's steep climb — up over 1,500% since 2019 — has transformed the lives of some of Nvidia's long-term retail investors, resulting in comfier retirements, new cars, and gains worth millions for some. I've served as Business Insider's main PC gaming reporter for a while now, so I know a thing or two about how graphics cards stack up to one another. "God-like AI could be a force beyond our control or understanding, and one that could usher in the obsolescence or destruction of the human race," he added. At some point, someone will figure out how to cut us out of the loop, creating a God-like AI capable of infinite self-improvement," Hogarth added. He also warned that the heated competition between those at the forefront of the technology, like OpenAI and Alphabet-owned DeepMind, risks an unstable "God-like AI" because of a lack of oversight. In a 2019 interview with the New York Times, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman compared his ambitions to the Manhattan Project, which created the first nuclear weapons.

On the homepage of Dexerto, a seven-year-old gaming-news website, staid posts about competitive esports commingle with screaming headlines about online gossip. Dexerto — pronounced "desert-o," "as if the x was an s," the cofounder and CEO, Joshua Nino, said — was founded on "sport-style esports coverage." Today, dexerto.com attracts 30 million monthly visitors, it said — a formidable sum, though less than 30-year-old stalwarts like IGN and GameSpot, which clocked 98 million and 69 million monthly visits in September, according to the web-analytics firm Similarweb. Direct-ad sales account for about half of revenue, with programmatic ads (30%) and social monetization (20%) making up the rest. Nino said Dexerto had been mostly bootstrapped — aside from about £257,000 in seed funding — and had been profitable since 2016.

Trombone Champ is the newest video game players can't put down — even if those around them wished they would. Developed by Holy Wow Studios, the rhythm-based video game is similar to Guitar Hero — but swaps the guitar for trombone. The game, which was released Sept. 15, went viral this week after people online — ranging from video game reviewers to actual trombone players — began posting recordings of themselves playing it. He came up with the idea for Trombone Champ four years ago, inspired by traditional arcade cabinets.
