While oil stocks tend to follow the direction of crude prices, the energy sector has gained 3.6% since election day, slightly outpacing the S & P 500. Conflicting signals The crude futures market and the oil and gas stocks appear to be taking different messages from Trump's victory. Since the election, natural gas stocks have been big winners on the prospect of more pipeline permitting. The oilfield services companies are also major beneficiaries under a Trump administration, West said. Oil surplus headwind More ominously, an oil and gas production boom under Trump would lower crude oil prices and likely act as a headwind for the industry.

Nvidia, on the other hand, recently leapfrogged Intel as the biggest chipmaker by revenue, creating a clear one-for-one swap opportunity. With Intel being the only chipmaker in the index, the sector is underrepresented relative to its position in the economy. Nvidia positioned itself to join the Dow in May, when the company announced a 10-for-1 stock split. Amazon joined the Dow in January, giving the internet sector greater representation in the index. At Starbucks, Niccol inherits a company that under previous leadership consistently disappointed investors with weakening sales, including back-to-back periods of negative same-store sales growth this year. Operations Upon taking over Chipotle, Niccol's focus was on improving operations after the rise of digital orders complicated execution and increased wait times. The addition of shelves alone accelerated the use of Chipotle's second "make line," where digital orders are prepared in the back of the store. To rebuild consumer trust at Chipotle, Chipotle launched the "Behind the Foil" campaign to showcase transparency in food preparation. His marketing approach "brought new news in a positive way toward Chipotle," Silberman said.

.SPX mountain 2022-10-12 The S & P 500 has gained more than 60% during this bull market. However, prior bull markets have shown a tendency to lose a little steam in their third year. Bank of America research showed that 10 prior bull markets for the S & P 500 had an average return of -2% in months 25 to 36. Another thing to keep in mind is that even positive third years for bull markets tend to be bumpy. Of course, a slump for the S & P 500 could be an opportunity for small-cap stocks to catch up .

The final three-month stretch of 2024 is here, and Wall Street is riding high. RBC head of derivatives strategy Amy Wu Silverman noted her clients are bracing for "3 standard-deviation drawdowns" in coming weeks. The VVIX gauges the volatility of the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) itself — seen by many as Wall Street's preferred measurement of how much investor fear is in the market. That … is a very different narrative from the first six months of this year," Wu Silverman added. Elsewhere on Wall Street this morning, Pivotal Research Group initiated analyst coverage of Alphabet , the parent of Google and YouTube, with a buy rating.

The funds target distributions equal to six times the dividend payouts on the Nasdaq-100 Index and four times the S & P 500 dividend, respectively. The idea behind the Pacer funds is that the funds will capture more of that upside during market rallies, according to Sean O'Hara, president at Pacer ETF Distributors. The QDPL's website currently shows a distribution yield of 5.79%, or more than four-times the roughly 1.3% dividend yield on the S & P 500, according to YCharts.com. The dividend futures could also see bigger gains if more companies in the index decide to start paying dividends. To be sure, the dividend futures contracts could also decrease in value during times of economic stress.

Slowing rate of change in earnings growth There are two important trends to follow in earnings. In the case of Nvidia, earnings are continuing to increase, but the rate of change is decelerating. This earnings report will likely be the final time in this stretch that Nvidia will see triple-digit earnings growth. But the impact has been shrinking – just as the overall Mag 7 impact has been diminishing with second quarter earnings growth broadening out. A cooling tower at the Constellation Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Scriba, New York, US, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Tech companies are increasingly looking to directly connect data centers to nuclear plants as they race to secure clean energy to power artificial intelligence, sparking resistance from some utilities over the potential impact on the electric grid. Data centers, the computer warehouses that run the Internet, in some cases now require a gigawatt or more of power, comparable to the average capacity of a nuclear reactor in the U.S. Tech companies are building out data centers just as power supply is increasingly constrained due to the retirement of coal plants and as demand is climbing from the expansion of domestic manufacturing and the electrification of vehicles.
