Philadelphia CNN —President Joe Biden plans to launch a nationwide effort to mobilize Black voters during a campaign rally in Philadelphia on Wednesday, aiming to win back support from a slice of the electorate that polls show wavering in support. Biden’s aides say they aren’t taking Black voters for granted as surveys suggest an erosion of support, particularly among Black men. Many polls have found Black voters more disconnected from the Democratic Party than they have been in decades. He’s also dialed into Black radio programs and touted issues like infrastructure investments and canceling student debt when promoting his record to Black voters. As the summer progresses, the Black Voters for Biden-Harris organizational effort will partner with community groups to register voters and strengthen voter protection efforts.

The community centers, which were based in several states including California, New York, North Carolina and Texas, were part of a yearslong effort to encourage Black, Latino, Asian and Native American voters to join the party. Republicans closed several minority outreach centers in battleground states more than a year ago and did not retain their minority media outreach directors. The most recent cuts, which will affect roughly 10 community centers, were first reported by The Daily Beast, and they are part of a wave of layoffs at the R.N.C. Republicans have widely promoted the community centers, which were established largely within the racial and ethnic communities they aimed to court. The centers often hosted political rallies, dances and potlucks, and some even helped community members prepare for the U.S. citizenship test.

Trump campaign officials are finalizing a takeover of the Republican National Committee this week and looking to expand their field operation. A small church organization in Virginia is helping unhoused people get back into permanent homes. In addition to losing access to stable housing, Walker says, people lose access to their communities. "Homelessness can be life changing, it can be a matter of life and death," Walker told Insider. His monthly disability payment — under $800 — is less than the median Virginia Beach rent of more than $1,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. The Asian American Power Network, a progressive advocacy group, has launched a $10 million effort to turn out Asian American voters in seven key battleground states ahead of the midterms. In the 2020 presidential election, the number of Asian Americans who voted in five battleground states was larger than the presidential margin of victory, according to the nonpartisan group Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote, or APIAVote. Just over 40% of Asian American voters who spoke a language other than English at home said they would use voting assistance if it was available in their own language, the survey showed. The survey showed that the three most important issues to Asian American voters were health care, the economy and crime. Ramakrishnan said the combination of redistricting and Roe v. Wade’s reversal is adding to campaigns’ uncertainty about voter behavior in November, so Asian American voters could play a key role.
