The reality of breast cancer in men
  + stars: | 2024-10-20 | by ( Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
Why men don’t think about breast cancerWhen people think of breast cancer, most think of “pink” and breast cancer in women. Men make up about 1% of all breast cancer cases, which means 1 in 726 men will be diagnosed in their lifetimes. The diagnosis is rare in men, but that is still a lot of men getting breast cancer. The role of genetics in male breast cancerMutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are more commonly associated with female breast and ovarian cancer, can increase a man’s risk for breast cancer. By raising awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, breaking down stigmas and encouraging men to talk to their doctors, we can help catch cancer early and help men live longer.

Perhaps the most important thing to bring with you: a “go bag” full of emergency supplies. Go bags exist to save you from having to run around and gather items when a threatening situation is imminent. The contents of a family’s go bag could mean the difference between life or death, depending on how bad a situation becomes, according to Jonathan Sury, senior staff associate at the National Center for Disaster Preparedness, or NCDP, at Columbia Climate School. Just because someone puts together a “go bag” does not mean that person is prepared, Montano warned.

During the eight years that Juan Orlando Hernández was president of Honduras, the tiny country was a conduit for hundreds of tons of cocaine that flowed north into the United States. Mr. Hernández’s political fortunes were tied to the gangs that transported those drugs, according to federal prosecutors in Manhattan. The traffickers fueled his rise, subsidizing Mr. Hernández’s campaigns in return for promises of protection, even as the two-term president presented himself as a U.S. ally in the war against drugs, prosecutors said. Now Mr. Hernández will spend 45 years in prison. Judge P. Kevin Castel called Mr. Hernández “a two-faced politician hungry for power” who had masqueraded as an antidrug crusader while partnering with traffickers.

Given this truism, it's no wonder that the populations of America's so-called superstar cities have stagnated while the Sun Belt's metropolitan areas have boomed. The COVID-era transition to more remote work accelerated this process of "domestic offshoring," a recent study by the workforce-analytics company ADP found. Domestic offshoring regionally segregates middle- and working-class employees from their employers, making it far more difficult for the former group to advance professionally. Domestic offshoring threatens to lock in these effects, potentially costing the country trillions of dollars in forgone wealth creation. But if domestic offshoring persists, fewer of the city's other residents will be middle-class professionals; those people will tend to congregate in domestic-offshoring sites.

Side effects of certain medicationsCertain medications, including those for hypertension and depression, can cause sexual dysfunction as a side effect. They may adjust your dosage or switch you to a different medication that has fewer effects on sexual health. Diabetic men, for instance, are three times more likely to experience erectile dysfunction compared with nondiabetic men.
