Indians have become the biggest group of international students in the U.S., surpassing Chinese students this year for the first time in 15 years. New data released by the State Department in conjunction with the Institute of International Education shows that there are now 331,602 Indian international students in the U.S. (a 23% growth from last academic year), compared with 277,398 Chinese international students (a 4.2% decline). South Korea, Canada and Taiwan follow distantly as the next most common countries of origin for international students, with numbers all well under 50,000. Long the most populous at U.S. colleges and universities, Chinese international students have been falling in number every year since the pandemic. However, the mummy also showed that sabre-toothed cubs differed dramatically from modern lion cubs of a similar age, Lopatin said. Americans paid a whopping $47,612 on average for a new car in October, according to data from Edmunds. That means new car prices have risen much faster than most goods and services. But much of the reason Americans are paying nearly $50k for a car is that automakers decided to go all-in on expensive cars. CNN —The Pentagon has received hundreds of reports of new UFO sightings, including “several particularly interesting cases,” according to the director of the office that investigates these reports, but reiterated it found no evidence of alien activity. The Pentagon, working with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and other government agencies, has received a total of 1,652 reports to date, according to the newly released annual report, including 757 new reports between May 2023 and June 2024. Private prison stocks rose on Monday after President-elect Donald Trump selected immigration hard-liner Tom Homan as his “border czar.”The Geo Group jumped more than 4% and and CoreCivic nearly 8% in premarket trading. Homan served as the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement during Trump’s first term. Homan told a conservative conference in July that he “will run the biggest deportation operation this country has ever seen” when Trump returns to office. The second Trump administration would allow for contracting with the U.S. Marshalls Services and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Boltansky said. “More importantly they would take a far more aggressive stance on border enforcement, which would impact the ICE business lines at these firms,” the analyst told clients.

President-elect Donald Trump's pick to carry out his sweeping deportation plans may be able to operate with more power, and less oversight from Congress, than some of his own Cabinet members. Homan will instead be the Trump administration's "Border Czar," a title that could grant him significant influence over immigration and border policy without the formal authority — and guardrails — that come with being a Cabinet secretary. Homan will also "be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin," Trump wrote in the post. "White House appointees are subject to less oversight than Cabinet and sub-Cabinet officials," said Katherine Hawkins, senior legal analyst for the Project on Government Oversight. "It is much harder for Congress to enforce subpoenas against White House officials, and they are more likely to cite executive privilege and refuse to testify and have that refusal upheld by courts," Hawkins said.
