Finance, health care and other regulated industries should consider their specific needs and tailor their defenses with military-grade components, he added. The implementation of military-grade cybersecurity is not without challenges. In 2024, regulated industries have witnessed a significant increase in both the number and cost of data breaches. Frederic Rivain, chief technology officer of Dashlane, holds a contrarian view on the need for military-grade defenses. "Multifactor authentication is important, and you must have it, but you still need to have multiple layers," Two Bears said.

Dr. Westheimer — who was widely known as Dr. Ruth — was in her early fifties when she became the first therapist to use mass media to educate adults and hormone-buzzing teenagers about sex. The answer was yes, yes, and yes. Ruth’s Guide to Safer Sex.” She worked relentlessly to reach new audiences and succeeded by expanding her fanbase to television with “The Dr. Ruth Show,” “The All New Dr. Ruth Show,” “You’re On the Air with Dr. Ruth,” and more. There has simply been no one like her.”Debby Herbenick, director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University, wrote: “Countless of us have been described at various times as ‘the next Dr. Ruth’ though of course there is only one Dr. Ruth. Without much fanfare, Dr. Westheimer had decided to make me a member of her chosen family, too.

To the Editor:Re “Why We Need to Talk About Teen Sex,” by Peggy Orenstein (Opinion guest essay, April 14):As a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst who has worked for decades with teens and college-age students, I’m disturbed but not surprised by the trend of choking during sex. Choking is obviously very dangerous, and unfortunately, social media has made this once uncommon practice more mainstream. Education is the key with both our youth and parents. Yes, sexual strangulation needs to be part of ongoing conversations about safe sex practices. There is a line, a boundary, where rough sex, whether it’s consensual or not, crosses into danger, causing devastating long-term effects for participants.

Debby Herbenick is one of the foremost researchers on American sexual behavior. The director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University and the author of the pointedly titled book “Yes, Your Kid,” she usually shares her data, no matter how explicit, without judgment. So I was surprised by how concerned she seemed when we checked in on Zoom recently: “I haven’t often felt so strongly about getting research out there,” she told me. As someone whose been writing for well over a decade about young people’s attitudes and early experience with sex in all its forms, I’d also begun clocking this phenomenon. (Note: There is no safe way to strangle someone.)

Read previewFrom excitement to frustration, Harvard University students had mixed reactions to the bombshell Tuesday resignation of the Ivy League school's embattled president, Claudine Gay. AdvertisementSome Harvard students hailed Gay's resignation, while others viewed it as a submission to powerful donors and political figures. "I think it is, if anything, too late," said Alex Bernat, a junior at the elite Massachusetts university, told The New York Times. AdvertisementAnother Harvard student, Ru'Quan Brown, told the Crimson that Gay's resignation "sets a bad precedent for future presidents." The professor added that he was "saddened for Harvard and higher education" with the news of Gay's resignation.

My Family and the Measles Vaccine

Surgeon General granted licenses to two drug companies to produce the first measles vaccines. It had taken nine years of research before a vaccine was ready for release to the public. That was too late for my sister, Mary Maura Grimaldi, who died at age 6 of encephalitis caused by measles, on the same day the licenses were announced. By contrast, it took only about a year for scientists to develop a Covid-19 vaccine. The difference was largely due to advances in research technology and $18 billion in taxpayer funds, said Dr. Paul Rota, chief of Viral Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Threads That Bind Us

I wondered if the commentator knew its origin: coloring sheep fleece rather than spun thread to reduce fading. The princess in “Sleeping Beauty” pricks her finger (on a spindle, on flax, on a wool comb) in the Middle East, South America and across Europe. Perhaps inspired by the molasses months of lockdown when so many found comfort in needlework, a trendlet of books has emerged celebrating the fiber arts. She drags him to an embroidery class at the local library that seems, at first, beyond his abilities. The needle that looks like a “tiger’s tooth” bites his finger, then bites it again.
Judge Raymond Dearie is calling for help to get through the documents the FBI seized. He nominated a retired judge, James Orenstein, to aid him — at the cost of $500 per hour. This bill will be footed by Trump, who has been asked to pay for the special master he requested. During its raid on Mar-a-Lago, the FBI seized batches of classified documents, including some marked "top secret." In the filing, Dearie asked that Orenstein, who is retired, be "compensated at the hourly rate of $500."
