CNN —If you planned on traveling aboard Spirit Airlines for the holidays, which filed for bankruptcy Monday, you shouldn’t worry. Multiple US airlines have undergone bankruptcies over the years, including United Airlines in 2002, Delta Air Lines in 2005 and American Airlines in 2011. That same low fare model pushed competitors at legacy airlines to offer options for basic economy tickets, tickets that compare to Spirit’s prices but come with restrictions. She said the stigma of bankruptcy may impact Spirit going forward with travelers uncertain of its future. For now, travelers shouldn’t stress as the airline begins to navigate bankruptcy, as it seems like a pretty standard bankruptcy filing, according to Foss.

Europe's banks brace for tougher competition under Trump 2.0

JPMorgan , Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley shares all soared while the STOXX Europe 600 Banks index is down more than 1% for the week. "If U.S. banks get the expected policy support, they could ramp up loan volumes and optimize capital in ways that Europe's banks just can't match right now," Materazzi said. Since early 2010, European banking shares have fallen 10%, while U.S. lenders have more than tripled. The European Central Bank has estimated that euro zone banks' return on equity fluctuates around 5%, against 10% in the U.S., linking it to higher U.S. fee income and legacy non-performing loans with which European banks still grapple. A wave of deregulation should give European banks some leverage to lobby for easing the rules in Europe, which are already more onerous, one banking executive told Reuters.

Wondering what stocks might do well the rest of this year as America awaits Donald Trump take office for a second time in January? Others were high-beta growth stocks that can ride a broad market rally and benefit from corporate tax rates. Most analysts surveyed by LSEG hold buy ratings, but they expect KeyCorp shares to slide by more than 5% after their rally this year. Between Nov. 7 and the end of that year, KeyCorp shares ran up more than 25%. CarMax is a cyclical stock that should benefit from both deregulation and the rising tide for high-beta stocks.

Unlike younger generations, who until recently may have taken federal abortion protections for granted, older women recall the era of illegal backroom abortions that preceded Roe. A fight for the senior voteNot all older women are motivated by abortion. But in a race that is expected to be decided on the margins, boosting support among women and older voters could make a difference. There are some signs in early voting data that women seniors are highly motivated to vote, said Tom Bonier, a Democratic strategist and CEO of the data firm TargetSmart. And it’s a playbook that former President Donald Trump’s campaign has tossed aside. It’s a gamble, Trump’s campaign internally acknowledges, but one that they insist is built on data they have collected over nearly a decade and tested for the past six months. Days later, the Michigan state party chairman also plugged 10xVotes when he rolled into Traverse City, Michigan, alongside Trump running mate JD Vance. But rather than courting those voters, Trump’s campaign is in search of new ones. Trump’s campaign has also tried to seize on discord within the Democratic coalition.

A poll released last week from AAPI Data, a data analytics firm that focuses on Asian Americans, found that 66% of Asian American voters plan to support Harris and 28% intend to back Trump. The same survey found that 62% of Asian American voters say they have a favorable opinion of Harris, compared with 35% who hold an unfavorable view. Republican officials declined to elaborate on efforts to win over Asian American voters. The Harris campaign has three full-time staffers at the national headquarters dedicated to engaging Asian American voters, a spokeswoman said, with additional staff being deployed to Georgia and other battleground states. Chinese banks have also held up billions of dollars worth of yuan payments intended for Russia, Reuters reported last month, which has also contributed to the yuan shortage.

In today’s edition, we explore one positive and on negative development for Kamala Harris' support from organized labor. The influential Teamsters union on Wednesday declined to issue an endorsement in the presidential race, Megan Lebowitz and Alexandra Marquez report. Prior to the announcement, the Teamsters also released survey data showing more rank-and-file members preferred to endorse Trump than Harris. Still, Harris has won the endorsement of just about every other major labor union in the country (the International Association of Fire Fighters remains a notable holdout). Instead, the Trump campaign appears to be approaching this apparent assassination attempt as an opportunity rather than as a moment to reflect.
