OpenAI will launch a new AI model, "GPT-4o mini," the artificial intelligence startup's latest effort to expand use of its popular chatbot, later on Thursday. The company called the new release "the most capable and cost-efficient small model available today," and it plans to integrate image, video and audio into it later. The mini AI model is an offshoot of GPT-4o, OpenAI's fastest and most powerful model yet, which it launched in May during a livestreamed event with executives. The mini AI model announced Thursday is part of OpenAI's push to be at the forefront of "multimodality," or the ability to offer a wide range of types of AI-generated media, like text, images, audio and video, inside one tool: ChatGPT. In October 2023, the Fifth Circuit Court rebuked Judge David Jones but said that his longtime colleague, Judge Marvin Isgur, had been "unaware" of Jones' inappropriate relationship. Wall Street saw much to like in Costco 's earnings report last Thursday, as customers flocked to the warehouse club's stores and website. Costco's earnings per share for its fiscal third quarter came in at $3.78, topping the $3.70 expected from analysts polled by LSEG. The bank believes Costco will continue to benefit from digital enhancements and membership growth. Loop Capital also remains bullish and hiked its price target on the stock to $890 from $840, implying nearly 10% upside ahead. The firm is anticipating continued growth in revenue and same-store sales for the year.

One day, the real one will be the inferior choice.” The article goes on to breathlessly outline use cases for “A.I. companions,” suggesting that some future iteration of chatbots could stand in for mental health professionals, relationship coaches or chatty co-workers. This week, OpenAI released an update to its ChatGPT chatbot, an indication that the inhuman future foretold by the Andreessen Horowitz story is fast approaching. While some observers, including the Times Opinion contributing writer Julia Angwin, who called ChatGPT’s recent update “rather routine,” weren’t particularly impressed, there’s been plenty of hype about the potential for humanlike chatbots to ameliorate emotional challenges, particularly loneliness and social isolation.
