Despite the market panic, analysts at both Jefferies and Investec reiterated their "buy" ratings on Watches of Switzerland stock in flash notes on Thursday. "However, the extent of the adjustments to the guidance range will be painful to navigate in the near term."

The firm on Tuesday reported a tick up in revenue to £379 million ($467 million) from £374 million in the most recent quarter. Sales of watches rose, while jewellery declined. The stock took a particular hit in August, after rival Rolex announced a deal to buy watch retailer Bucherer, fueling fears of an industry juggernaut taking more market share.

London CNN —Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega says it has been the victim of “organized criminal activity,” alleging three of its former staff members admitted working with intermediaries to sell a fake Speedmaster watch for some $3.4 million dollars. The watch was bought by Omega itself for 3.115 million Swiss francs—25 times the auctioneer’s upper estimated price—at a Phillips auction in in Geneva in November 2021. “OMEGA and Phillips were the joint victims of organized criminal activity involving the selling of this specific watch by auction,” the statement added. “This timepiece is currently a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation that must also bring to light the seller of the watch. “The watch was bought by OMEGA for the OMEGA Museum and we understand from OMEGA that it has discovered that the watch is composed of unrelated parts from various sources, and that OMEGA employees may have been involved in assembling the watch.

Omega says three former employees faked a watch it paid $3.4 million for, per Switzerland's NZZ. A representative told Bloomberg the watch was a "Frankenstein" that was made of several parts. It was bought by Omega for just over 3.1 million Swiss Francs, or about $3.4 million – a record price for a Speedmaster, per Bloomberg. But according to a statement Omega gave to Bloomberg, the watch was instead a "Frankenstein" that contained mostly authentic parts from other vintage watches. It told Bloomberg it couldn't say who brought the watch to auction.
