CNN —Italian alpine skier Matilde Lorenzi died aged 19 from injuries suffered in a training accident, the Italian Ministry of Defense confirmed Tuesday. The rising skiing star suffered a serious crash during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales, South Tyrol, Italy, according to an International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) statement. “I will always remember her with a smile, with her determination and drive,” her older sister Lucrezia Lorenzi – a World Cup series skier – told CNN affiliate SkyTG24. The 19-year-old was Italian junior champion last season in the overall standings and super-G, according to the Olympic website. US alpine ski star Mikaela Shiffrin was one of many who expressed sadness, reposting images of Lorenzi captioned with broken hearts on her X account.

Top rock refers to moves done while standing, such as a Crossover Step or an Outlaw Two-Step, while down rock refers to the moves done on the floor that we commonly associate with this style of dance. "It adds this element of surprise because the thing is, we don't even know what's going to happen, so how could the audience know what's going to happen?" American sprinter Gabby Thomas won her first Olympic gold medal in the 2024 Paris Games women's 200-meter final on Tuesday — an accomplishment that she credits, in part, to her second job. The 27-year-old, who took home bronze and silver during her Olympic debut at the Tokyo games, balances her career as an Olympian with a job in health care. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in neurobiology from Harvard University and a master's degree in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center. In the months leading up to the Games, Thomas trained three to six hours a day, but at night, she worked at an Austin volunteer health-care clinic for people without insurance. "I think I'm just so grateful to get to do what I love," Thomas told Olympics.com.
