The Judiciary panel's request says that "the grave public allegations against Mr. Gaetz speak directly to his fitness to serve as the chief law enforcement officer for the federal government." The committee's Democratic majority, in a letter to FBI Director Chris Wray, noted that Gaetz's associate Joel Greenberg pleaded guilty in 2021 "to the sex trafficking charge for which Mr. Gaetz was also investigated." The 42-year-old Republican, who until last week represented a Florida district in the House of Representatives, has denied all wrongdoing.

In NBC News’ early October national survey, just 4% of registered voters said they didn’t want to make a choice between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. One said they plan to vote for Trump, another that they are likely to vote for Harris, and another plans to not vote at all. How anyone could still be undecided a week out from a critical election can be difficult to fathom for supporters of either Trump or Harris. Eric Bush, a systems administrator from Florida, said he’s waiting until he is in the voting booth to make his final choice. But he is still weighing backing Harris, acknowledging a vote for Harris could lead to bigger-government policies that could help others.

Kamala Harris’ deployment of prominent Republican Trump critics hasn’t convinced a new focus group of voters who backed Nikki Haley in the GOP presidential primary. “It’s repulsive,” said Dale J., a 67-year-old from Minnesota who voted for Trump in 2020 and plans to do so again. "I really liked the idea that Nikki Haley was a woman, and I thought she would have more closer values to mine than Trump. (One of these voters is a registered Democrat who voted in her state’s open presidential primary for Haley.) Donald Trump on Friday dismissed more questions about whether he would release his current medical records, doubling down on refusing to provide a health update even as Kamala Harris works to sow doubts about his fitness for the presidency. The 78-year-old Republican nominee, when asked if he will release his health records, suggested that he has already shared enough information about his medical status. "Yeah, my health records – I've done five exams over the last four years. Trump told CBS News in August that he would "very gladly" release his medical records, but his campaign has not done so.
