An 88-year-old doctor accused of sexually assaulting Indiana University basketball players back in the 1990s has been ordered to appear before a judge Tuesday to determine whether he is competent to be questioned about the alleged abuse. Delaney named the Trustees of Indiana University as defendants in the lawsuit, alleging Title IX violations by the school for failing to protect the students. In response, Indiana University retained the Jones Day law firm to launch an independent investigation into the Bomba allegations. The doctor had played football for Indiana University and was nicknamed “Frankenstein” by coaches and players “due to the large size of his hands and fingers,” the lawsuit added. The accusations that IU turned a blind eye to allegations of a team doctor sexually abusing student-athletes echo another major scandal involving a team doctor.

India's economy expanded by just 5.4% in its second fiscal quarter ending September, well below estimates by economists and close to a two-year low. The print follows 6.7% growth over the previous quarter and is the lowest reading since the last quarter of 2022. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast growth of 6.5% for the period, while the Reserve Bank of India expected an expansion of 7%. The weak GDP reading could potentially affect the country's interest rate trajectory, with the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee scheduled to meet between Dec. 6-8. Markets watchers had been expecting an eleventh consecutive pause by the RBI, with the repo rate currently at 6.5%.

CNN —The Maldives, with its sprawling white sand beaches and dazzling coral reefs, is one of the world’s most expensive holiday destinations. Now, though, this Indian Ocean archipelago nation has just increased the price it costs to leave. The departure tax is broken down per passenger based on the class of service they’re using to fly out of the Maldives. Located off the coast of India, the Maldives has a population of about 525,000 across more than 1,000 islands and atolls. Geography makes the Maldives an easy sell for high-end brands, as hotels and resorts can easily have their own private island.

India's antitrust body has turned down a request from Apple to put a hold on an investigation report which found the company breached competition laws, allowing the case to continue, an internal order from the regulator seen by Reuters showed. The CCI internal order showed that Apple alleged in November that the main complainant in the antitrust investigation—the Indian non-profit Together We Fight Society (TWFS)—had not complied with the directives to give an assurance that the old investigation reports had been destroyed. Apple asked the CCI "to take action against TWFS for non-compliance with its order" and "to withhold the revised" report, the CCI order, dated Nov. 13, seen by Reuters showed. "Apple's request to hold the investigation report in abeyance was deemed untenable," the CCI said in the order. The CCI's senior officials will review the investigation report and make a final ruling on the case.
