At least 15 people died following a rain-triggered landslide in central China’s Hunan Province, Chinese state media Xinhua said Sunday. China’s northeast – a key food-growing region which traditionally had been less effected by frequent flooding – is also grappling with heavy rains. In China’s Liaoning province, across the border from North Korea’s North Pyongan, more than 45,000 people were evacuated from their homes as of Sunday morning as heavy rains hit the region, according to Xinhua.

SEOUL—North Korea fired four short-range ballistic missiles off its west coast on Saturday as the U.S. and South Korea wrapped up joint air drills that were extended in response to Pyongyang’s provocations. The missiles were fired between 11:32 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. local time from North Pyongan province, located in the country’s northwest, the military in Seoul said. The missiles flew about 80 miles, hitting an altitude of roughly 12 miles.
North Korea's provocations on Wednesday, while highly symbolic, are "more for show than for military escalation," he told NBC News. Hours before firing its first missiles, North Korea threatened the United States and South Korea over joint military exercises continuing this week that the North considers a rehearsal for invasion. Yoon's office said the timing of the North Korean launches "clearly showed the nature of the North Korean government." Over the course of the day, North Korea fired at least 23 ballistic missiles toward the sea. But Russia and China are also wary of North Korea and its unpredictability, Foster-Carter said.
SEOUL—North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile off its east coast on Sunday, Seoul and Tokyo officials said, Pyongyang’s first such weapons test in nearly four months as provocations slowed during the country’s Covid-19 outbreak. The missile was launched at 6:53 a.m. from the inland North Pyongan province, located in the country’s northwest, South Korea’s military said. Japan said at least one ballistic missile had been fired, hitting an estimated altitude of 31 miles and flying around 250 miles before splashing into the waters between Korea and Japan.
