Photo: Cincinnati Children’sSamantha Sauer said she landed her first full-time job at age 32, after a decade of being unable to find such work because of a medical condition requiring regular, time-consuming medical treatments. Then in 2022, she got a full-time remote job answering telephone calls from people seeking help from Patients Rising, a private group that provides resources and advocacy for people living with chronic illnesses. The position allows her to work “without having to sacrifice my health for my job or my job for my health,” said Sauer, who lives in New York.
