Ojekunle's debit card, which was linked to her parents' bank account, was declined after she attempted to pay for a few items at the grocery store.
"That's like life-changing money," Ojekunle said.
Becoming a big saverA big part of financial stability is psychological, and financial trauma is real, she noted.
As she got into the habit of saving, she began transferring money directly to the account.
According to a screenshot of her bank account viewed by Insider, she was also able to save over six figures before purchasing her home.
