CNN —Over the last decade, Afrobeats has become a global phenomenon, bringing African music into the Western mainstream. While many African artists have been able to ride the wave of the genre’s international popularity, some musicians are now pushing for global recognition beyond its confines. If I feel like making Afrobeats I can make it. “The global impact that ‘Water’ had on the world just proves that African music can be pop music too,” she said. She added, “There’s a tendency to group all African artists under Afrobeats; it’s a thing, and even though Afrobeats has run things and has opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse.

Britain’s Conservative Party on Saturday elected Kemi Badenoch as its new leader as it tries to rebound from a crushing election defeat that ended 14 years in power. Badenoch defeated rival lawmaker Robert Jenrick in a vote of almost 100,000 members of the right-of-center party. Badenoch replaces former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who in July led the Conservatives to their worst election result since 1832. The Conservatives lost more than 200 seats, taking their tally down to 121. But the party also lost many voters to the winning party, Labour, and to the centrist Liberal Democrats, and some Conservatives worry that tacking right will lead the party away from public opinion.

A contentious campaignTwo Conservatives contested this election, but many in the Labour party feel like they won it. Kemi Badenoch is congratulated by her husband Hamish, Robert Jenrick and wife Michal Berkner after winning the Conservative Party leadership contest on Saturday. Editor’s Note: Curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe is CNN Style’s guest editor for the month of November. The child is tucked away in the bottom left-hand corner, but in the mind of curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe, his presence fills the entire frame. But Akinkugbe holds a magnifying glass over these slim fragments, off-cuts of the dominant whitewashed narrative of art history, and forces them to take up space. “I think a lot of it was down to the fact that (art history) is viewed as an elite, white field. The coincidence at times feels “sinister” for Akinkugbe, but she believes there is longevity in the increased interest in and support for Black art and artists.

At least that seems to be the message — both symbolically and stylistically — embedded in Kamala Harris’ second ever Vogue cover. It's the vice president's second cover for the title. Annie Leibovitz/VogueThis time around, though, neither Vogue nor Harris’ team seemed concerned with signposting her authenticity and approachability (Harris’ viral meme-ridden campaign seems to have handled that).
