Rosa Andrade, 29, was one of six employees killed after they were unable to escape the rising waters around Impact Plastics in Erwin, a small town in East Tennessee. Normally running 2 feet deep, the river rose to a record 30 feet that day, with more than 1.4 million gallonso of water running downstream each second — twice as much as Niagara Falls. Relatives of some of those who were killed have sued Impact Plastics and its owner, Gerald O’Connor. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing the allegations involving Impact Plastics at the direction of the local prosecutor.

A New York woman and two children, including an infant, died after going over Niagara Falls this week, state police said. The incident occurred about 9 p.m. Monday, near Goat Island, state police said in a statement. The 33-year-old woman and the two children, a 9-year-old and a 5-month-old, were all from Niagara Falls, state police said. State police did not specify in the statement the relationship between the woman and the children. An investigation determined the woman and children crossed over a safety guard rail and went over Niagara Falls on Luna Island, which is attached to Goat Island, according to state police.

CNN —Three people died after an Amtrak train struck a pickup truck in western New York north of Buffalo, fire officials said Saturday. All of the truck’s passengers were pronounced dead at the scene Friday night in North Tonawanda, the city’s fire chief told CNN in a phone call. There were no reported injuries to the 21 passengers and crew members on the train, Amtrak said. Amtrak train 281 was traveling north from New York to Niagara Falls when it hit the vehicle on the track, Amtrak said in a statement.
