He deemed them blue zones — a term that first appeared in an academic paper about longevity in Sardinia, Italy published in 2004. I found that the centenarians in the blue zones were missing or dead when the study was conducted. "They were falling in regions that had terrible health, and surprisingly that was the shared characteristic of most blue zones. In the letter they state that Buettner's claims about four of the blue zones, Okinawa, Sardinia, Ikaria and Nicoya, "have been fully validated by strict demographic criteria." Buettner told The New York Times that he frequently visits the blue zones to make sure birth records are accurate.

Country singer Sundance Head, who won Season 11 of 'The Voice,' was injured by a stray bullet at his ranch in Texas on Friday, his agent said. Head, 46, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler, where he was recovering after being stabilized, agent Trey Newman said in a statement. Newman said the round that injured Head likely came from a nearby hunter's errant gunfire. Though Head's father, Roy Head, was a noted musician, the singer didn't start to make inroads in music until he was 33. "The Voice" and NBC News are entities of NBCUniversal Media, LLC.

Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he “absolutely” wants to see the House Ethics Committee’s findings on Gaetz. “I think there should not be any limitations on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation, including whatever the House Ethics Committee has generated,” he said. Trump has pushed to keep all options on the table to greenlight his nominees, including recess appointments, which would bypass the typical Senate confirmation process. However, Sen. Rick Scott told CNN, “I believe in recess appointments.” Scott had supported recess appointments during his bid for GOP leader, which he lost to Thune. The Supreme Court has ruled on questions about recess appointments, which makes the outcome of taking these questions to court uncertain.

Markets, in particular, crave certainty, and the clear path forward will allow companies to adjust their business and hiring plans. But stocks may also be reacting to Trump’s victory, in particular. Trump flipped several swing states from President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory, and Republicans also took control of the Senate. So Trump’s victory, at least for now, appears to be keeping those rates somewhat higher. Other so-called Trump trades, including shares of his social media stock, Trump Media & Technology Group, surged Wednesday morning.

Enacted by former President Donald Trump, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, or TCJA, brought sweeping changes for individuals, including lower tax brackets, higher standard deductions, a more generous child tax credit and a bigger estate and gift tax exemption, among others. Many of the individual TCJA provisions will sunset after 2025 without action from Congress, which will be a key issue for the next president, policy experts say. However, planning can be complicated with several tax provisions scheduled to sunset, experts say.

Ron DeSantis penned the cease-and-desist letters sent by Florida’s health department threatening to criminally prosecute local TV stations over their airing of an abortion rights ad, the department’s former general counsel said in court documents. “I did not draft the letters or participate in any discussions about the letters prior to October 3,” Wilson wrote. Spokespersons for DeSantis and the Florida Department of Health did not immediately respond to CNN requests for comment. Wilson’s allegations come after local TV stations began airing an ad by Floridians Protecting Freedom, the group behind the state’s “Yes on 4 Campaign,” promoting a ballot measure seeking to overturn the state’s six-week abortion ban by enshrining abortion rights in the state’s constitution. Local TV stations also received support from FCC chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, who said earlier this month that “threats against broadcast stations for airing content that conflicts with the government’s views are dangerous and undermine the fundamental principle of free speech.”

Intel products sold in China have been recommended for a security review by local officials who allege that the U.S. chipmaker poses "serious risks" to national security. CSAC further accused Intel of using remote management features to surveil users while covertly installing backdoors and of failing to address defects reported by users. Daniel Newman, CEO of The Futurum Group, noted the security review comes amid increased tensions between China and the U.S. in regard to chip controls and AI leadership. China accounted for 27.4% of Intel's revenue in 2023, making it vital to the company's bottom line at a time its stock is struggling following poor earnings and job cuts. However, under U.S. chip policy, the company has been restricted from exporting some of its most advanced products to Chinese clients.
