This is one of several misconceptions about nuclear energy: America’s nuclear waste is not buried in a mountain or tucked at the bottom of a deep, rocky cavern. That is almost entirely because Americans are by and large opposed to living anywhere near nuclear waste, and suspicious of governments’ or utilities’ attempts to assuage nuclear fears. The byproduct of nuclear energy is still associated with atomic bombs or nuclear meltdowns. On the threshold of America’s nuclear energy renaissance, federal officials are pleading with communities to say yes to storing spent fuel. No state has yet raised its hand to store the country’s nuclear energy waste, despite the lucrative deals it could foment.

(AP) – Fred Harris, a former US senator from Oklahoma, presidential hopeful and populist who championed Democratic Party reforms in the turbulent 1960s, died Saturday. “I think it’s worked wonderfully,” Harris recalled in 2004, when he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Boston. “It’s made the selection much more legitimate and democratic.”“The Democratic Party was not democratic, and many of the delegations were pretty much boss-controlled or -dominated. Harris ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1976, quitting after poor showings in early contests, including a fourth-place win in New Hampshire. We had my Senate seatmate Robert Kennedy killed and then we had this terrible convention,” Harris said in 1996.

Skulls found on a New Mexico property earlier this month were obtained online and are not related to the case of a woman who went missing in 2019, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Human remains were found after a search of a property associated with the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 in the southeastern part of the state, the sheriff's office said last week. The medical examiner determined the remains found on the property had "no medical or legal significance," the sheriff's office said. On Nov. 12, shortly after the discovery of the remains, the sheriff's office said it could be related to Angela McManes, who disappeared in 2019. Two days later, the sheriff's office said there did not appear to be a link between the skulls and McManes beyond the proximity of her home to the property where the skulls were found.

My wife and I built a slab for our RV on my son's property to be near family when we want. I'd spent years as an executive in Southern California, and I had a retirement plan in place for quite some time. My vision for retirement did not include living in an RV or moving to Washington state. My son's house was a fixer-upper, so we helped out with all sorts of projects to help the kids make it their dream home. The new tech also gives staff more info on passengers' connections and boarding groups. American Airlines is cracking down on passengers who try to sneak their way into an earlier boarding group. Over three years after the accidental on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Alec Baldwin's Western film “Rust” received a polite response during its controversial premiere Wednesday at the EnergaCamerimage festival in Toruń, Poland. The audience clapped through the film’s closing credits, strengthening their applause when a dedication to Hutchins appeared. The premiere opened with Camerimage director Marek Żydowicz asking the audience to stand for a moment of silence for Hutchins. Cinematographer Rachel Mason, Hutchins’ friend who made a documentary about the completion of the film, then made an emotional speech. Additionally, AFI launched the Halyna Hutchins Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In the last Congress, Democrats repeatedly helped Republicans keep the government open and propped up Speaker Mike Johnson when he faced a challenge to his leadership post. He even tapped other senior House Democrats to echo his message to the Biden team, according to another person familiar with the efforts. Still, unlike some in his party, Jeffries is not in despair, according to multiple people familiar with his thinking. But Democrats say Jeffries — alongside Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who will serve as minority leader in the next Congress — might be the best person to at least try. But the decline in support for Ms. Harris in some of the country’s most liberal areas is particularly notable. For example, in Fulton County, which contains most of Atlanta, Ms. Harris gained about 4,500 votes, but Mr. Trump gained more than 7,400. He similarly outran Ms. Harris where she made gains in Wake County, N.C., Lancaster County, Pa., and Montgomery County, Texas. In Milwaukee County in swing-state Wisconsin, Ms. Harris lost 1,200 voters compared with Mr. Biden’s total in 2020, while Mr. Trump gained more than 3,500. Nearly 63% of the US population has fluoridated water flowing through their taps, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hawaii is the only US state without any fluoride in municipal taps; fluoridated water is only available there on military bases. As such, fluoridated water is now mandated on any military base with more than 3,300 people. Rumors have circulated that drinking fluoridated water can lead to bone cancer (osteosarcoma), but long-term studies from both the UK and US haven't found any credible evidence of higher rates in areas where people drink fluoridated water. Their review concluded that some studies of fluoride consumption have found links between higher fluoride water levels and lower IQs in kids.

Tomohiro Ohsumi | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesDETROIT — Toyota Motor sounded the alarm Friday that California-led electric vehicle mandates that are set to start next year are "impossible" to meet and, if they're not changed, will lead to less customer choice in several states. Battery-electric, fuel cell and, to an extent, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles qualify as zero emission under the regulations. At this point, it looks impossible," Jack Hollis, chief operating officer of Toyota Motor North America, said during a virtual media roundtable Friday.
