An 18-year-old New York state employee was killed while battling a wildfire in Orange County's Sterling Forest Saturday. A Hamilton College student has been charged with posting antisemitic remarks on campus, authorities said Monday. New York State Police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the private college located in upstate New York on Friday after receiving “a report of antisemitic remarks being posted on art canvases on campus,” police said in a news release. Brenden was located in his dorm room on Saturday and agreed to speak with state police during which he “ultimately admitted to posting the remarks,” officials said. Authorities said Hamilton College has suspended Brenden from campus pending a hearing for his dismissal from the school. Officials said “there remains no threat against students or faculty at Hamilton College.”NBC News has reached out to state police and Hamilton College for further comment.

NEW YORK (AP) — A new, higher-dose nasal spray for reversing opioid overdoses did not save more lives than the previous standard dose, but it did cause more vomiting and other side effects, researchers wrote in a study published Thursday. Three troops in eastern New York were given 8-milligram sprays. The study results were based on 354 instances in which troopers administered naloxone sprays from late March 2022 to mid-August 2023. But so too did those treated with the 8-milligram sprays, who got 1.58 doses, or 12.6 milligrams, on average. But other problems were significantly more common in the patients who got the higher-dose sprays.

The person killed was an adult, according to NBC's New York affiliate, citing an unnamed source familiar with the situation. The New York State Police said in a posting on social media that the highway was closed at that point. The bus was carrying members of a high school band from Farmingdale, New York, in Nassau County on a trip to a band camp in Greeley, Pennsylvania, according to a statement from the Farmingdale School District posted by local media. CNN —At least one person has died and dozens more were injured when a bus carrying students rolled over on Interstate 84 in Orange County, New York, about 75 miles north of New York City, authorities said. There were “multiple serious injuries,” New York State Police said in a news release.
