The Securities and Exchange Commission said Friday that World Wrestling Entertainment co-founder Vince McMahon will pay more than $1.7 million in relation to charges that he failed to disclose payment agreements related to sexual assault charges. The SEC said McMahon circumvented WWE internal accounting controls and caused material misstatements in the company’s 2018 and 2021 financial statements. He will pay a $400,000 civil penalty and reimburse WWE approximately $1,331,000. The SEC alleges McMahon failed to disclose one $3 million payment paid to a former WWE employee — and another $7.5 million paid to a female independent contractor — in exchange for their not filing claims against him. In 2022, the Wall Street Journal reported McMahon had paid $3 million to a former WWE employee to quash sexual assault allegations.

The undisclosed settlement payments caused issues with WWE’s financial accounting and disclosures, the SEC added. In one of the undisclosed settlements, McMahon paid a former employee $3 million for her to agree not to disclose her relationship with McMahon or make claims against him or the WWE, the SEC said. In the other undisclosed settlement, McMahon paid an independent contractor $7.5 million for her not to disclose allegations against McMahon, the SEC said. “There was never anything more to this than minor accounting errors with regard to some personal payments that I made several years ago while I was CEO of WWE,” McMahon said in a statement. In January 2024, McMahon stepped down as chairman of TKO, WWE’s parent company, following allegations of sexual assault and trafficking.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday announced a $6 million penalty against Goldman Sachs for providing incomplete and inaccurate trading information to the regulator. The banking giant made more than 22,000 deficient "blue sheet" submissions over a roughly 10-year period, affecting at least 163 million transactions, according to an SEC order. The SEC routinely sends these electronic requests to brokers for securities trading information to identify buyers and sellers. The firm is "pleased to have resolved this matter," Abbey Collins, a spokesperson for Goldman Sachs, told CNBC. But the SEC also found that Goldman had insufficient internal processes to verify the accuracy of its blue sheet submissions.

Staffing shortages strained supervisory resources, particularly at the FDIC's New York regional office, in the years leading up to the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank in March, both regulators said. Both the Fed and FDIC highlighted that their oversight ranks grew leaner even as the institutions they were tasked with reviewing grew larger and more complex. At the Fed, supervisory hours at SVB declined at the same time the Santa Clara, California-based bank was experiencing rapid growth starting in 2017. While the Fed had 15 full-time employees staffed on the supervisory team for SVB, the bank received fewer supervisory resources through 2021 compared to similar banks. "Examination resource shortages, particularly in the New York region, are a mission-critical risk that will require a sustained whole-of-agency response," the FDIC said.
United Airlines will pay $305,000 to a Buddhist pilot who refused to attend AA on religious grounds. United agreed to accommodate staff from non-Christian faiths in its program in the future. A step to regaining the certification in United's HIMS occupational substance abuse treatment program involves attending AA meetings. United rejected his suggestion of using the Buddhism-based peer support group Refuge Recovery as an alternative, the commission said. To resolve the lawsuit, United will pay the pilot $305,000 in back pay and damages and reinstate him into its HIMS program while allowing him to attend a non-12-step peer recovery program.
