Human remains were found submerged in a Georgia pond inside a vehicle similar to the one that belonged to a New York Couple who disappeared in 1980, authorities announced.
One human bone was discovered in the submerged Lincoln Continental on Friday, according to a Saturday statement from the Glynn County Police Department.
“The vehicle is similar to the description of a vehicle that Charles and Catherine Romer were believed to be driving when reported missing in April, 1980,” the police department said in a Facebook post.
Law enforcement back then expressed concerns about potential foul play against the couple from Scarsdale, New York, partly because Catherine Romer was wearing about $81,000 worth of jewelry.
The pond was being drained, police said, to determine if there are additional remains.
