South Carolina resident Sophia Celentano commutes to her New Jersey summer internship by plane, weekly, revealing on her TikTok account that it’s actually cheaper than renting near her advertising gig’s New Jersey office. Her employer, Oglivy Health, requires interns to be in its New Jersey office usually one day a week. She said that costs her about $100 every week, plus another $100 on Uber rides to and from the airport and another $25 on food. After being handcuffed by the police, Mario Terruso Jr. was hallucinating, complaining of extreme nausea, and appeared to be high on drugs. But the New Jersey officers instead brought him directly to jail, concerned about getting bogged down on a Sunday shift awaiting a lengthy medical evaluation, according to an investigation by the state attorney general’s office. Thirteen hours later, after being forcibly restrained in jail, Mr. Terruso, 41, was dead. On Monday, a grand jury took the unusual step of handing up indictments against eight officers involved in the 2019 arrest and the subsequent restraint of Mr. Terruso inside Atlantic County’s jail. Eric Tornblom and Mark Jenigen, both correction officers at the jail, are charged with manslaughter.

The FBI in New Jersey said Thursday it is investigating a “credible” and “broad threat” to synagogues in the state, and the governor said law enforcement are working to protect houses of worship. Officials with the Newark FBI announced the threat in a statement and told the public to stay alert. “The FBI has received credible information of a broad threat to synagogues in NJ. Phil Murphy said in a statement his office has been in contact with the state attorney general’s office, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and the FBI. “We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with local law enforcement to ensure that all houses of worship are protected,” Murphy said.
