I've loved the Caribbean but I'm more interested in other ports now that I've been on 50+ cruises. Although I still love these ports, they've lost their appeal to me now that I've been on more than 50 cruises. Sailing through the Norwegian fjords is one of my favorite cruise experiences to date — the breathtaking views surrounds the ship in all directions, offering endless photo opportunities. So, no matter the itinerary, I now tend to book lengthier sailings — ideally ones longer than a week. Over the past two centuries, Nantucket has gone from a whaling town to a hippie refuge to a holiday hot spot for billionaires. "To use a well-worn phrase, come hell or high water, people are still buying multimillion-dollar homes on Nantucket." Between 2030 and 2100, the number of structures exposed to coastal erosion is expected to go from 113 to 860. "Without erosion, this would be an extremely valuable area," Baxter Road resident Joshua Posner told BI. "It's not inexpensive, but it is worth doing," Posner told BI.

BOSTON (AP) — When it comes to hurricanes, New England can't compete with Florida or the Caribbean. Lee remained a Category 1 hurricane late Friday night with sustained winds of 80 mph (128 kph). One recent study found climate change could result in hurricanes expanding their reach more often into mid-latitude regions, which include New York, Boston and even Beijing. While hurricanes and tropical storms are uncommon in New England, the region has been seen its share of violent weather events. ☆ Rare sighting of killer whales off New England coast

CNN —New England Aquarium researchers spotted something unusual on Sunday afternoon during an aerial survey — a group of four killer whales swimming just 40 miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Killer whales, also known as orcas, are more commonly seen in areas surrounding the Arctic ice-edge and the Caribbean, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Katherine McKenna, assistant research scientist at the New England Aquarium in Boston, was the first to notice the group, or pod. Another atypical killer whale sighting — involving particularly large numbers — also occurred last weekend in coastal waters on the other side of the United States, in California’s Monterey Bay. “That was the best sighting I’ve seen in my 35 years of killer whale research,” Black told CNN.
