The family doctorIn the Oregon community where Nicole Snow grew up, Dr. David Farley was always there. Recounting the same anecdote he’d told Snow, he told Medley he’d once lost a young patient to cervical cancer and needed to do another exam to keep her safe. But again, women like Medley, Snow and Pratt describe feeling belittled or dismissed. After watching a documentary about the gymnasts abused by then-team doctor Larry Nassar, Medley, Pratt and Snow launched a civil suit against Farley. Their lawsuit has been amended multiple times to add women, girls, men and boys who say they too were abused by Farley.

The White House wrote that image-based sexual abuse “has skyrocketed,” disproportionately affecting women, children and LGBTQ people. More nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfake videos were uploaded online in 2023 than all previous years combined. Franks said that while the voluntary efforts the White House highlighted are welcome, she does not see them as a substitute for legislation. Still, he said, the Biden administration’s and Vice President Kamala Harris’ focus on gender violence, online harassment and image-based sexual abuse was “transformative” compared with the work of previous administrations and the impact it has on victims and their advocates. On Google’s search engine and Microsoft’s Bing, NBC News previously found that nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfakes were available at the top of some search results.

Prior to the company’s demise, it had looked like Europe was poised for something of a night train revolution. Despite this demand, the hurdles for startups like Midnight Train trying to enter the market to meet it remain virtually insurmountable. Formidable obstaclesEuropean Sleeper is one of the few new night train operators to begin services, but the company has struggled to find rolling stock. “Politicians must be clear: the night train market will be effectively closed for a very long time,” he says. With the honorable exception of Nightjet, which plans to expand rapidly over the next five years, European night train services have yet to match the hype.

Without rule of law, without a peacekeeping force, without humanitarian aid, Gaza will combust and descend into civil chaos. This route is used by both commercial and aid trucks, as well as convoys like the one I am in, transporting aid workers. Palestinians storm trucks loaded with humanitarian aid brought in through a new US-built pier in central Gaza on May 18. They are waiting to ambush aid trucks, but they smile and wave at our far less tempting UN-marked jeeps. A fear of “the war after the war.” Some believe it has started already.

and other leagues moved more of their games onto cable and satellite broadcasters and subscription streaming services. The strategy has paid off: Ninety-three of the 100 most-watched programs on television last year were N.F.L. dismissed offers to create cheaper services that would have let fans buy games based on teams. They are seeking damages of $7 billion, which could be tripled under antitrust statutes. In “Baby Reindeer,” Gadd’s stalker is portrayed as unattractive and mentally ill — someone whom her victim actually feels sorry for. “Baby Reindeer,” rated TV-MA by Netflix for “language, nudity, sex, sexual violence, substances,” only has a viewer discretionary warning before “Episode 4” wherein Gadd’s character is sexually assaulted. Information is also available on sexual assault, sexual violence and relationship abuse. Neither Netflix nor the “You” and “Baby Reindeer” teams responded to CNN’s requests for comment. Fleitman hopes “Baby Reindeer” can raise awareness for stalking victims, like men and so-called “imperfect victims” whose stories may not look like the ones we’re used to seeing.

The Israeli government’s decision to kick Al Jazeera out of Israel says more about the government than the TV network. The Arabic programming on Al Jazeera may often be tendentious and anti-Israeli, but shutting it down further erodes Israel’s proud image as a democracy in a neighborhood populated largely by authoritarian or hereditary rulers. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel accused Al Jazeera of being a security threat by serving as a megaphone for Hamas. Founded in 1996, Al Jazeera is the most popular source of news for much of the Arab world. From a purely tactical point of view, having an Al Jazeera bureau in Israel gave Israelis a better shot at getting their message to the Arab world than shutting it down.

A child shrieks in pain in a medical tent at a field clinic in southern Gaza. It is the psychological obliteration: What makes the trauma different in Gaza is the sheer constancy of it. Trauma compounds trauma every single day; there is no respite, not even a brief one. It was one of the clearest instances of a little-noted fact of the student demonstrations against the war in Gaza — that a small fraction of faculty members at U.C.L.A., Columbia and other universities have provided logistical and emotional support to the protesters. Some faculty members have formal ties to Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine, the counterpart of Students for Justice in Palestine, a decentralized national network of pro-Palestinian groups. “It’s a breach of trust that they would call the police on our students,” said Stephanie McCurry, a history professor at Columbia University, who watched over the perimeter of the encampment before the last police sweep on Wednesday. The issue has torn apart the faculties at these universities. More than a few say the activist professors are romanticizing the demonstrations, which have thrown campuses into chaos.

JetBlue Airways shares tumbled more than 10% in premarket trading Tuesday after the airline lowered its 2024 revenue forecast, a setback as it tries to return to profitability. The carrier said second-quarter revenue would likely drop as much as 10.5% on the year, more than double the decline analysts polled by LSEG expected. JetBlue has been on a cost-cutting spree, culling unprofitable routes, and focusing on those with steady demand and high sales for premium seats. JetBlue earlier this year said it would defer $2.5 billion in aircraft spending until the end of the year. Revenue dropped 5.1% from last year to $2.21 billion, matching LSEG revenue expectations.

United Airlines on Tuesday cut its aircraft-delivery expectations for the year as it grapples with delays from Boeing , the latest airline to face growth challenges because of the plane-maker's safety crisis. "We've adjusted our fleet plan to better reflect the reality of what the manufacturers are able to deliver," CEO Scott Kirby said in an earnings release. In January, United said it was taking Boeing's not-yet-certified Max 10 out of its fleet plan. The airline said it has converted some Max 10 planes for Max 9s. United is also facing a Federal Aviation Administration safety review, which has prevented some of its planned growth.

HSBC to sell Argentina business in $550 million deal

CNN —HSBC has agreed to sell its business in Argentina to Grupo Financiero Galicia, the largest private financial group in the country, for $550 million, the UK-based bank said on Tuesday. The sale is expected to lead to a $1 billion pre-tax loss for HSBC in the first quarter of this year, the statement added. “HSBC Argentina is largely a domestically focused business, with limited connectivity to the rest of our international network,” Quinn said, adding that the unit “generates substantial earnings volatility” for the bank. “Galicia is better placed to invest in and grow the business,” he said. The bank, Europe’s biggest by market value, reported a big drop in quarterly profit in February, partly because of its exposure to China’s troubled real estate industry.

More than two years later, only four states — Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Hawaii — have opened stations funded by the program. The Biden administration says the federal charging program is on track. The grants will fund 47 EV charging stations and related projects in 22 states and Puerto Rico, including 7,500 charging ports. But even some of the government’s own experts say 500,000 public chargers won’t be enough to meet Biden’s ambitious climate goals.
