It said that member Hanni was not legally classified as a worker under her contract. South Korea's government on Wednesday dismissed a workplace harassment case involving K-pop star Hanni, saying the singer was not legally classified as a worker. The push and pull between what counts as work in South Korea's entertainment industry has stretched on for years. The Ministry's ruling on South Korea's musician rights is similar to the situation in the US. Representatives for HYBE and the South Korean Labor Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

But whether they are measured by income or educational attainment, President-elect Donald Trump won working-class voters overall while he made strong gains among nonwhite working-class voters like Hispanics and Asian Americans. As recently as 2012, non-college-educated voters were splitting their votes evenly or even slightly in favor of Democrats. But that has left the party’s leaders, donors, operatives and other decision-makers more removed from the lives of low- and middle-income workers, some labor leaders say. But there is widespread frustration that Trump outflanked Democrats to position himself as a champion of working people, as well as dissatisfaction with Democrats not limited to white or male union members. But that policy was not enough to overcome larger societal forces that have led many working-class voters to doubt Democrats’ commitment to their well-being.

Rather than face the humiliation of a rejection vote in the Senate, Cabinet nominees are more frequently withdrawn when it becomes clear they cannot be confirmed. Here’s a look at the Cabinet confirmation process, why it exists, where it’s gone wrong and how Trump wants to find a way around it. Presidents like Ronald Reagan, Clinton and both Bushes did use recess appointments, although usually for positions below the Cabinet level. While Democrats can no longer filibuster Cabinet nominees, they can slow the process down. Then, the Senate rejected Taney when Jackson put him forward for a Supreme Court nomination.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his business empire stand to reap massive rewards if former President Donald Trump returns to the White House. Elon Musk joins former US President Donald Trump during a campaign event in Butler, Pa., on Oct. 5, 2024. “I love Elon Musk,” Trump said at a rally in July. It’s not clear how Musk and Trump would navigate the ethical questions around a possible government role for the tech billionaire. “He would be in much less trouble in a Trump administration because Trump shares his hostility to regulation and regulators,” Richard Pierce, a law professor at George Washington University specializing in government regulation, told NBC News in an interview earlier this year.

Striking Boeing workers voted in favor of a 38% pay rise. The latest big victory for US labor unions could inspire others despite the tense process. AdvertisementThe machinists' victory is the latest to highlight the power of labor unions in the US. It has been a tense road for the roughly 33,000 unionized Boeing workers who began their strike on September 13. That may only grow more common as workers find inspiration from others' victories, something noted by the president of the Boeing union.

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris face off in the ABC presidential debate on Sept. 10, 2024. The previous Trump administration didn't pursue those types of consumer protections. In contrast, Democrats, including Harris, have historically supported EVs and incentives such as those under the Biden administration's signature Inflation Reduction Act. Meanwhile, Harris, if elected, can build on existing efforts of the Biden administration to deliver savings to more patients, they said. Trump also led multiple efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, including its expansion of Medicaid to low-income adults.

The decision underscores the fractious relationship Starbucks has had with organized labor as more and more workers at its stores unionize. In 2022, when Schultz was interim CEO, he attended a company event in Long Beach, California, to address and improve working conditions at Starbucks stores. According to the administrative law decision, he “had an angry expression on his face.” The NLRB decision upholds an administrative law judge’s decision in October 2023. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk listens to President Donald Trump during a meeting with business leaders in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, Feb. 3, 2017. "They want to make Trump, Elon and people like them look like plutocrats," he said. "Elon Musk created the opportunity that Donald Trump took to unmask himself as rabidly anti-union, and he did that by praising Elon Musk's anti-union, union-busting perspective and endorsing the idea of illegally firing striking workers," he said. Harris, who is not related to Kamala Harris, said he views Musk's endorsement as a net negative. "No one views Elon Musk as a voice of the middle class," he said.
