A general view during the 2022 NHL Global Series Challenge between the Nashville Predators and the San Jose Sharks at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, on Oct. 7, 2022. Jumping the pondThe NHL Global Series is not new. In February, the NHL will host its first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off, an international event where league players from Canada, Sweden, Finland and the U.S. will play for their native countries. In 2026, NHL players are planning to participate in the Olympics for the first time since 2014. The hope is that increasing exposure for NHL players on a global stage will be a tailwind for the league.

November 9 - The Calgary Flames will be going for their third consecutive victory when they visit the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night. The Flames ended a six-game losing streak Saturday in a 6-3 road win over the Seattle Kraken on Saturday. "Confidence is a big thing in this league, and it makes a big difference, and when you start to get that collective confidence, that's when teams get dangerous." In the win over Nashville, Calgary's Jonathan Huberdeau was benched in the third period and looked on as the Flames scored three goals. "You want everybody to know that if they're doing things the right way and they're having their best game, they're going to play," Huska said.

Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports Acquire Licensing RightsOct 24 (Reuters) - The National Hockey League (NHL) has reversed its ban on players supporting social causes on their equipment, including the use of rainbow-coloured Pride tape on their sticks. The NHL had instituted the ban via a league-wide memo sent to its 32 teams ahead of the 2023-24 regular season, drawing criticism from players, fans and a number of prominent organizations. "After consultation with the NHL Players' Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition, players will now have the option to voluntarily represent social causes with their stick tape throughout the season," the NHL said in a statement on Tuesday. The decision by the NHL comes three days after Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis Dermott became the first player to defy the ban with colourful tape wrapped around the shaft of his stick during his team's home opener. A few hours later, the Kraken lost 4-1 on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights. The Kraken failed to score on the ensuing five-minute power play and Vegas' Jack Eichel scored an empty-net goal. "That's where they gain all their momentum, their power play is elite. "We had some chances for sure, but their power play beat our power play.

"We cannot push everyone to be an activist, we need to be very careful," Canadian Subban told Reuters. "I'm not saying it is right or wrong to wear the (Pride)jersey, we have just got to be very careful how we push players to do things. Instead the blame lies with the media, says Subban, for only telling half the story. "The people that write the articles, the people that push certain narratives in the media they have to be held accountable," he added. "There's many players in the league that have started programs - why aren't the media talking about that.
