CNN —A mile and a half beneath the ocean’s surface, the seafloor seems nearly as alien as the surfaces of other planets. These hydrothermal vents belch warm towers of elements that draw clusters of animal life, such as tube worms. There, animals develop symbiotic relationships with bacteria that use chemical reactions to produce sugars necessary for life beyond the reach of sunlight. Mónika Naranjo-Shepherd/Schmidt Ocean InstitueThe arms of an underwater robot helped uncover communities of giant tube worms and snails living in volcanic caves beneath warm vents in the Pacific Ocean. The finding suggests unique ecosystems on the seafloor and within the subseafloor are connected, allowing life to thrive above and below the ocean bed.

CNN —Scientists have uncovered communities of animals such as tube worms and snails living in volcanic caves beneath the seafloor, revealing a previously unknown but thriving ecosystem. An eelpout swims by a tower of tube worms at the Tica Vent, a hydrothermal vent site on the East Pacific Rise. Tube worms are immobile creatures that settle and grow in one place without moving, like barnacles. A large cluster of stationary tube worms thrives at the Fava Flow Suburbs, a site on the East Pacific Rise. Researchers use a robotic arm to lift a small portion of volcanic rock to verify that life exists beneath the ocean floor.

Just a few years ago, that same road — 34th Avenue — was a traffic-clogged artery. The 34th Avenue Open Street is 26 traffic-restricted blocks with a handful of entirely car-free plazas outside schools. Thousands of students use the 34th Avenue Open Street to get to and from school every day. Siff and others hope 34th Avenue will become a public park that prioritizes people on foot. Do you live on or near an open street in New York City or a traffic-restricted street elsewhere?

There are more than 70 cases in which Tren de Aragua is mentioned in law enforcement documents or prosecutors’ complaints. Castro-Mata entered the country illegally last July, a member of Immigration and Customs Enforcement told CNN. The Venezuelan has tattoos associated with Tren de Aragua – which court documents for a suspected gang member in Georgia describe as five-pointed crowns, five-pointed stars and teardrops – the New York Police Department told CNN. A fellow police officer who refused to cooperate with the gang in his native Aragua state was shot 50 times, Boza says. They tied his body to a motorcycle and dragged it throughout the San Vicente neighborhood to demonstrate the power of the Tren de Aragua,” Boza said.

When I asked new college graduates last month to tell me about their job searches, I got back a ton of heartache. For some, a sense that college was a waste of time and money. John York wrote that he was about to earn a master’s degree in mathematics from New York University. Utterly demoralizing,” wrote Beth Donnelly, who is graduating this month with a major in linguistics and minors in German and teaching English as a second language. “I’ve been searching since early August for full-time, part-time or internship positions after I graduate.

Emilio Naranjo/Pool via REUTERSMADRID, June 11 (Reuters) - Forensic scientists will on Monday begin the exhumation of 128 victims of the Spanish Civil War from a vast burial complex near Madrid, El Pais newspaper reported. The remains of some 34,000 people, many of them victims of Franco's regime, are buried anonymously in the complex. Relatives of those whose remains lie inside have been fighting for years to give their loved ones a burial under their own names near their families. In 2016, a court approved the exhumation of the brothers, but seven years later the family is still waiting.

Colombian military spots balloon-like object in its airspace

Feb 5 (Reuters) - A day before a U.S. military jet shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon, Colombia's military confirmed a sighting over its territory of an airborne object similar to a balloon. U.S. military officials on Friday said a Chinese balloon was spotted somewhere over Latin America but did not specify its location. The Colombian statement did not mention China or any other country as the balloon's origin. The statement added that the object exhibited "characteristics similar to those of a balloon," and that the air force monitored it until it left Colombian airspace. The saga of the Chinese balloon, downed off of the U.S. Atlantic coast on Saturday, captivated public attention for days, and was widely seen as worsening U.S.-China relations.
“One of the worst things you can hear from your child is them screaming ‘I don’t want to die! Residents across the state are just beginning to understand the full extent of the damage, especially in marginalized communities, as they recover from the deluge. But instead of work, Naranjo and other farmworkers are faced with some 20,000 flooded farmland in Salinas, according to early estimates from the Monterey County Farm Bureau, a nonprofit association of farmers and ranchers. When asked if he would return to work soon, Naranjo answered: “I don’t know.”Cars driving through a flooded roadway in Planada, Calif., on Jan. 10. “In my head, I thought if it was that bad, someone would come tell us, but no one ever did.
Some Gen Zers are focusing on a company's mission and job security during their job searches. As a recession looms, Gen Zers might want to consider their financial futures when applying for their next role. Additionally, over half of Gen Z could enter retirement without sufficient savings due to savings challenges and rising costs, Boston University economist Laurence Kotlikoff previously told Insider. In fact, the typical annual salary for Gen Z employees was $32,500 in 2021, according to research from the personal finance site GoBankingRates. To be sure, plenty of Gen Zers understand the financial pressures to come and are prioritizing salary in their job search.
It has some Gen Zers focusing on job security over the pursuit of their dream job. The environment has some Gen Zers prioritizing job security. But it's easier to not worry about job security when one's finances are strong and the risk of unemployment is low. It may be wise for Gen Z in particular to prioritize job security, as young Americans are among the individuals hardest hit by economic downturns. If security is what Gen Zers value, then many should be well positioned — at least in the short term — to retain their jobs.
Mexico City has seen an influx of people migrating to the historic metropolis, especially during the pandemic when remote work made it possible to work from different places. Currently, 1.6 million Americans live in Mexico, according to the State Department, and Mexico City is the fifth rated destination for digital nomads globally, according to nomadlist.com. He emphasized Mexico City isn’t cheap, but in comparison to other countries digital nomads are migrating from, it’s considerably more affordable. “If you’re making your salary in U.S. dollars, pounds, Canadian dollars, you’re better off living in Mexico City.” Romero said. He believes those areas with higher numbers of digital nomads are already economically out of reach for most of the locals.
Having focused on this work for nine years, she said what’s happening now with pay transparency will most likely mirror what has happened with remote work in recent years. But as the practice of pay transparency becomes more common and less of a novelty, choosing not to disclose salary ranges will be seen as out of the norm. Melanie Naranjo, who heads its "people team," said the company weighed common employer concerns before deciding that the benefits of salary transparency would outweigh any costs. He said listing salary ranges will help candidates better understand the value of their role, too. I think all of these future-of-work conversations are related, and a lot of these issues can be solved through pay transparency, but also pay flexibility.”
Colombians are searching for Miami properties this year more than any other country's residents. COVID-19 caused a shift in preference from commercial to residential real estate as an investment. They see Miami real estate as a safe investmentWhy the turn to US real estate now? They see opportunity in residential real estate, as opposed to commercial real estate, like offices and retail spaces. "People were waiting to see who the next president was going to be, but now they're very afraid," Gomez said of Cipriani's Colombian buyers.
Patricia Naranjo told Insider why this is and how to deal with added stress if you do get promoted. The 1,050 executives who were surveyed felt more overwhelmed by their work, felt lonelier, and had more feelings of depression than the 1,050 employees who took part. If you're in line for a promotion, Naranjo recommended that you ask yourself certain questions: "Do I consider myself a leader? "Too many meetings can be a source of work stress, especially if they involve several people. "It helps us to feel more satisfied at work and, therefore, more satisfied on a personal level," Naranjo said.
