The star, known as WOH G64, is 160,000 light-years from Earth in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small neighboring galaxy that orbits the Milky Way. Van Loon has observed WOH G64 since the 1990s and studied it as a student at the European Southern Observatory. The Hubble Space Telescope soon revealed it had indeed been a red supergiant in the past, perhaps 20,000 years before the explosion. “If this is what we are seeing (WOH G64) doing, then a spectacle awaits us soon,” van Loon said. It’s nowhere near as bright or variable as WOH G64, van Loon said, and only experienced a brief hiccup compared with what WOH G64 is undergoing.

CNN —November’s full moon, otherwise known as the beaver moon, will shine bright in the sky on Friday as the last supermoon of the year. In addition to observations from Earth, current space missions such as NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been collecting data on the moon since 2009, help enhance our understanding of the moon, Petro said. For patient sky-gazers looking to spy a meteor, Lunsford recommends facing east with the moon out of your field of view. The Leonids will be seen blazing in the night sky until the shower’s finality on December 2, according to the American Meteor Society. London Associated Press —A children’s book written by British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has been withdrawn from sale after it was criticised for causing offense to Indigenous Australians. “Together with my publishers we have decided to withdraw the book from sale.”Indigenous campaigners were particularly aghast that neither Oliver nor his publishers, Penguin Random House, had consulted with them before the novel was published. Jamie Oliver's new book Billy and the Epic Escape. Joe Giddens/PA Wire“It is clear that our publishing standards fell short on this occasion, and we must learn from that and take decisive action,” the publisher said. Oliver released his first children’s book, “Billy And The Giant Adventure,” last year and said in a social media post that he had “carefully chosen the font to make sure the text is as clear as possible” as dyslexic people like himself can find it hard to read.

Several reports go so far as to report that Iran's entire arsenal of Russian-built S-300 air defense systems was hit. Related storiesThere are reasons to be skeptical about the extent of damage to Iran's air defenses. Israel's attack was retaliation for Iran's enormous October 1 ballistic missile strike. The wings and drums were on the small side, but the sauce's flavor and spice level were pretty spot on. I wish the wings were bigger. In a pinch could definitely satisfy a wing craving, just don't expect deep-fried restaurant quality here.

In the interview, Allen — then a CVS clerk — provided an account of what he’d done that Feb. 13. Once at Westville Correctional Facility, Allen told prison officials and officers — including the warden — that he killed the girls, prosecutors have said. A week later, Wala said, Allen told her he wanted to sign a confession, prompting the psychologist to tell him to speak with his attorneys. Together, Pennsylvania’s mail ballot rules have generated an entire vocabulary for rejected mail ballots — ballots that are unsigned, undated or misdated, or even “naked,” if they are not clothed in a secrecy envelope. The latest update from Oct. 31 — after the general statewide deadline to request a mail ballot — shows there were 2,193,578 mail ballot applications ever approved. Combined with the deficient returned ballots that we already know about referenced above, that comes to about 8,000 deficient mail ballots that have been returned to date. Although this general election will likely see more mail ballots returned than the previous midterm, the trend so far suggests we might have fewer mail ballots rejected. Moreover, the experience in 2022 suggests there will also be thousands of provisional ballots cast by voters who return deficient mail ballots.

Neal's Yard Dairy said that "despite the significant financial blow," they've paid each of their artisan cheesemakers in full for their products. Oliver said that as the world’s most consumed cheese type, a cheddar theft affects exports to 20 different countries. The whereabouts of the stolen cheese have yet to be determined.

C/2024 S1 was a sungrazer, a comet that passes within a distance of about 850,000 miles (1,367,942 kilometers) from the sun. “Comets are really hard to predict, and sungrazing comets like this are even harder than most. NASA“Statistically, it’s extremely rare for sungrazing comets to survive (as they fly) past the Sun,” Battams told CNN in an email. A handful of larger sungrazing comets have been observed surviving their close pass by the sun, such as comet C/2011 W3 Lovejoy in 2011. However, any debris from C/2023 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS or C/2024 S1 will not pass near enough to Earth to produce a meteor shower, Cooke said.
