The dollar relinquished a little of its recent gains on Monday as the pick for U.S. Treasury secretary seemed to reassure the bond market and pulled yields lower, shaving some of the currency's rate advantage. Yields on 10-year Treasuries slipped to 4.351%, from 4.412% late Friday, as President-elect Donald Trump's choice of fund manager Scott Bessent was welcomed by the bond market as an old Wall Street hand and a fiscal conservative. However, Bessent has also been openly in favour of a strong dollar and has supported tariffs, suggesting any pullback in the currency might be fleeting. The index was last down 0.5% at 106.950, having hit a two-year peak of 108.090 on Friday. The dollar dipped 0.4% on the Japanese yen to 154.11, and further away from its recent peak of 156.76.

My family of six spent $2,677 for a day at Disneyland and $1,990 for a day at Universal Studios. AdvertisementBoth parks provide great entertainment, but Universal has one show Disney can't compete with"WaterWorld" blew our family away. Our Universal line-skipping passes had a steeper price tag at $600 compared to the $180 we paid for Disney's equivalent service. Even so, our Universal tickets still cost about $200 less than the Disney ones. It should put a damper on just how much we should expect the next president to accomplish, especially if the divide is between the House and the White House. There’s a big difference in just how divided government becomes, depending on whether the House and the White House are controlled by the same party or different parties. Two words send chills down the spine of any presidents who find the “other” party in control of the House: subpoena power. Both Trump and Joe Biden saw the second halves of their terms (after they lost control of the House) essentially paralyzed by an oppositional House. First, because California House races will determine overall House control, it could take as much as two or three weeks before we know the makeup of Congress in 2025 for sure.

All the names had to also be rated a buy at Goldman and have an estimated dividend yield of 2% or more in 2025. It has an estimated 2025 dividend yield of 4.6%, analyst Deep Mehta said. Its estimated CAGR in dividend-per-share between 2024 and 2026 stands at 19% and its estimated dividend yield in 2025 is 2.9%. While it was an asset to Biden in polling against Trump, it appears to be a much bigger advantage for Harris. And in this new NBC poll, Harris’ advantage was just under 20 points. There's a small part of the municipal bond market that could provide a big opportunity to investors, according to Nuveen. The Nuveen High Yield Municipal Bond Fund , which Close manages, has about 9% of its assets in charter school muni bonds. NHMAX 1Y mountain Nuveen High Yield Municipal Bond Fund Charter school bonds fund construction, renovation or the purchase of school facilities. There are currently about 8,000 charter schools in the United States serving 3.7 million students, according to the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools . Traditional K-12 bonds pay about 3.5%, while charter school bonds yield around 5% — a 150 basis point difference, Close said.

On an interstate highway between Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz., drivers on their morning commute called 911 to report a runaway. He was miles from home and ambling across the four-lane highway when he was finally caught by police. State troopers, with the help of a few good Samaritans, stopped traffic and picked up the escapee: Stitch, a giant sulcata tortoise with a sand-colored shell. The 14-year-old tortoise had broken out of his enclosure and a few layers of fences at the nearby Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, a roadside animal park open to the public, before making a run for it. Danna Cogburn, an owner of the ranch, said he had been missing for two to three hours before officers told the owners they had found him on the road.

Navigating the time zone to buy tickets was the hardest part, as we hadn't yet moved to France from the United States. The cost was reasonable, too, with tickets to many events starting at about 25 euros ($27).
