A fourth university has forfeited its women’s volleyball match against San José State University following controversy over the gender identity of one of the team’s players. In the lawsuit, Slusser says the teammate who was the subject of the media coverage told her she was a trans woman. Tony Hoang, the executive director of Equality California, said that in forfeiting matches against SJSU, school administrators are harming all students involved. The Republican governors of both Utah and Idaho publicly supported decisions by Southern Utah University, Utah State University and Boise State University to cancel their matches against SJSU. Previously, trans athletes’ participation in sports was regulated by state sports associations, school districts and, in college athletics, the NCAA.

LOS ANGELES — Former Southern California football star Reggie Bush has filed a lawsuit against his school, the NCAA and the Pac-12 in a bid to recoup money made on his name, image and likeness during his career with the Trojans two decades ago. “It’s about setting a precedent for the fair treatment of all college athletes. Bush forfeited his Heisman in 2010 after USC was hit with massive sanctions partly related to Bush’s dealings with two aspiring sports marketers. There is a settlement agreement in place to pay $2.78 billion to hundreds of thousands of college athletes. Clark and the Fever had won the previous two meetings, but it proved to be third time lucky for the Sky who prevailed in a tense game. CNN —As she adjusts to life in the WNBA, rookie phenom Caitlin Clark is also having to navigate becoming a lightning rod for societal discourse. “It’s disappointing,” replied Clark ahead of the Indiana Fever’s home game against the Atlanta Dream. Her rivalry with fellow star Angel Reese, for example, has triggered discourse about race in the US. Clark has had a mixed start to her WNBA career so far, showing flashes of her brilliance but struggling initially with the physicality of the professional game. “Nobody’s apathetic about the WNBA because we’ve brought in so many new fans into what we call the fan funnel this year.”

Thomas, 25, had in January filed legal paperwork against World Aquatics, swimming’s governing body based in Switzerland, for its policy that restricts transgender athletes from competing in most elite women’s aquatics competitions. It also said national federations don’t have the authority to modify the application of a world governing body’s rules. CNN —USA Basketball’s decision to omit Caitlin Clark from the Olympic roster was initially met with some shock. However, USA Basketball has made a “terrible decision,” according to CNN Sport analyst Christine Brennan, by omitting a phenomenon like Clark from the roster. Breanna Stewart, a two-time WNBA champion, Brittney Griner, a nine-time All Star and A’ja Wilson, a two-time MVP, have all represented Team USA at an Olympic Games before. “She’s the biggest thing in sports, not just women’s basketball in the United States,” Brennan said of why Clark should be included. With or without Clark, Team USA is the overwhelming favorite to win gold in Paris and continue its unbeaten Olympic record stretching back to 1992.

CNN —Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese transferred their already storied collegiate rivalry into the professional ranks of the WNBA on Saturday, and it was Clark who came out on top. But it was far from an individual effort with Clark’s teammates helping lift the Fever to their first home win of the season. A year later, Clark and Iowa got a measure of revenge by defeating Reese and LSU in the Elite Eight of the 2024 NCAA tournament. While the rivalry between Clark and Reese was the major talking point around the game, there was a tense moment late in the third quarter elsewhere. Clark and the Indiana Fever were able to record an important home win.
