It’s been another eventful year for U.S. air travel. Two weeks later, a federal judge blocked JetBlue Airways’ planned purchase of Spirit Airlines, leaving the smaller, battered budget carrier to fend for itself. Through it all, demand for air travel overall smashed records, and CEOs are optimistic about next year, too. It cost Delta Air Lines more than $500 million and left thousands of stranded customers, with a cancellation tally that topped all of 2019. Immigrant families are spending the holidays having difficult conversations in anticipation of President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to carry out what he has called “the largest deportation program in American history” once he's sworn in next month. NBC News spoke with nearly half-dozen immigrants' rights advocates across four different states and they all said they have received an increased number of calls from immigrants asking about their rights. They have also heard questions from community groups, schools and churches about what their roles are in the face of such possibilities. Mendoza said the hotline will provide support to immigrants and anyone affected by immigration enforcement actions in the coming year. That, alongside "massive public pressure," would be key to ensuring that immigration enforcement tactics that "go against American values" don't become the new normal, Patiño said.

The show is also one of three ambitious projects released this year reimagining beloved Latin American classics treasured by book lovers for their use of magical realism. In addition to “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” Netflix also recently adapted Juan Rulfo's Mexican novel "Pedro Páramo" into a film. Magical realism is having its TV momentGarcía Márquez, who won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1982, was best known for novels and short stories that use magical realism to blur the lines between fantasy and reality. An important literary tool for many Latin American authors, magical realism allows these writers to both explain sociopolitical realities and the abstract feelings associated with them. New York CNN —More than 33,000 Boeing employees ended their strike a month ago. But planes have only just recently started moving along the assembly lines that were idled by the two-month work stoppage. The FAA then placed limits on how many of the Max jets Boeing could build. Two of those jets were 787 Dreamliners built at its non-union plant in South Carolina that never went on strike. For November, coming out of the strike, it booked 49 gross orders, although that was reduced by 14 cancellations.

Twelve of the 15 Salisbury University students accused of attacking and beating a man in Maryland because of his sexual orientation had their hate crime and first-degree assault charges dismissed, court records show. The students, ages 18 to 21, originally faced several charges including first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment and associated hate crime charges, police said. The remaining charges accusing them of reckless endangerment and committing hate crimes were dropped following preliminary hearings last week. While both of them had their reckless endangerment charges dropped and their assault charge downgraded, they continue to face false imprisonment and hate crime charges, court records show. “At this time, the students facing charges in the alleged incident remain on interim suspension,” a spokesperson for Salisbury University told NBC News in a statement Sunday.

Some Hispanic men are defining college differently. “Latino men are checking out because they are the labor force for a lot of these jobs that require manual labor and blue-collar workers,” Ponjuán said. Hispanic men work in some of the most dangerous jobs, mostly in transportation and construction, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Like Garza, some Hispanic men are using their blue-collar skills to start their own contracting, landscaping, restaurant and other businesses. But one of this year’s election takeaways is that those gains weren’t enough to overcome frustrations, especially among Latino men, about high costs and the impact on their families.

With nearly all the ballots now counted in the 2024 election, we can fully evaluate the performance of the national and battleground polls this cycle. The battleground polls also weren’t far off the mark, either, although their misses were slightly larger than what we saw in the national polling. What else the polls got rightBeyond signaling that the 2024 presidential election was competitive and uncertain, the polls nailed the political atmospherics that shaped the contest. Additionally, the polls foretold many of the key demographic trends that ended up defining the 2024 election, including Trump’s gains with Latino voters. That was a major story in the 2024 election: There were more self-identified Republican voters than Democratic voters.
