Operating profit: 279.11 billion yen ($1.9 billion), versus 275.35 billion yen expected. Gaming, for which Sony is well-known thanks to its popular PlayStation consoles, banked revenues of 864.9 billion yen in the quarter, up 12% from 771.9 billion yen a year ago. For full-year 2024, Sony revised its forecast upward saying it now expects to hit 12.6 billion yen of sales. Sony also upped its operating profit forecast by 3%, noting it expects to reach 1.3 trillion yen in consolidated operating profit for the full year.

It's time to jump back into the Spotify bandwagon, according to Wells Fargo. Analyst Steven Cahall upgraded the audio streaming stock to to overweight from equal weight, saying the company is now "off margin probation." An expected price hike could also further improve gross margins for Spotify's Music division, according to Cahall. Additionally, Spotify received an upgrade to overweight by Atlantic Equities, which is optimistic about the company's gross margin expansion and advertising outlook. The stock has jumped 53.4% in 2023, as part of the tech stock rally .

Jan 12 (Reuters) - Warner Bros Discovery Inc (WBD.O) is exploring a sale of its music library that could be valued at more than $1 billion, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The company is looking for buyers for the music copyrights that it owns, according to the report, which added that the process was in its early stages. Warner Bros Discovery, which was formed last year by the merger of AT&T Inc's (T.N) WarnerMedia unit and Discovery Inc, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Warner Bros Discovery's reported plan would be the latest under top boss David Zaslav, who recently shut down the CNN+ streaming service and canceled the movie "Batgirl".
