☆ Viral banana artwork has sold again — this time for $6.24 million

But artist Maurizio Cattelan’s viral creation, titled “Comedian,” has proven a sound investment for one collector: One of the artwork’s three “editions” smashed estimates to sell for $6.24 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York on Wednesday. The auction house had estimated the work to go for between $1 million to $1.5 million; bidding began at $800,000. Prior to the sale, Sotheby’s confirmed to CNN that neither the tape nor, thankfully, the banana are the originals. The Miami installation was eventually removed amid public safety concerns, but all three editions were sold at the fair. In interviews given since the Miami installation, Cattelan has described “Comedian” as a work of commentary.

CNN —A stained-glass Tiffany window originally designed for an Ohio church has sold for $12.48 million at auction. This is the first time the window has come to auction in 24 years and the sale sets a new auction record for Tiffany Studios. It sold for $2 million back in 2000, which was a world record for a Tiffany window at that time. That was the “thematic precursor” for the Danner Memorial Window 10 years later, Sotheby’s said in a press statement. The museum acquired Garden Landscape, designed in 1912, a three-part window designed by Northrop, last year.

CNN —European officials are looking toward Russia after two submarine internet cables in the Baltic Sea were suddenly disrupted in an apparent sabotage operation, just weeks after the United States warned that Moscow was likely to target critical undersea infrastructure. A cable between Lithuania and Sweden was cut on Sunday, according to Telia Lithuania, the telecommunications company that runs the link. Separately, the state-controlled Finnish telecoms company Cinia said one of its cables, which connects Finland and Germany, was disrupted on Monday. ”Nobody believes that these cables were accidentally severed,” he told reporters on Tuesday morning ahead of a ministerial meeting in Brussels, Belgium. The extent of the disruption, if any, caused by the damage to the cables is unclear.

CNN —The United States has returned more than 1,400 looted artifacts worth $10 million to India as part of an ongoing initiative to repatriate stolen art from countries across South and Southeast Asia, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced Wednesday. The trafficked goods recovered include items that, until recently, were on view at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The DA’s office obtained an arrest warrant for him in 2012though he remains in custody in India, pending his extradition to the US. But as Forreau was sorting her underwater photos of seahorses and corals, she made another unexpected discovery: The worms’ coral burrows were visible in the images. It was a moment that encapsulated one of the biggest challenges facing her campaign – which, in the end, proved insurmountable. CNN spoke with over a dozen senior Harris campaign aides both in the Wilmington, Delaware, campaign headquarters and on the ground in the states, as well as multiple volunteers and local elected officials, over the course of the final weeks of the race. Biden could have taken on a role as steward and elder statesman, rather than a guy the Harris campaign never knew quite what do with. Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and North Carolina ended up consuming the campaign’s most precious resources: time and money. Hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of ads blanketed the airwaves in the battlegrounds as Harris and Trump held large-scale, competing rallies. On the eve of the election, Harris and Trump raced to those swing states making their final pitches, each focusing heavily on Pennsylvania, the biggest electoral prize of those states. The Harris campaign, flush with money, has deployed a massive ground game in the battleground states that aims to deliver its voters to the polls. “President Donald J. Trump is going into Election Day stronger than he has in any previous election and if patriots across the country keep the momentum and turn out as expected on Election Day, we will be swearing in President Trump in January,” Tim Saler, a data consultant for Trump and the Republican National Committee, said in a statement.

A surfer lost part of a leg in a morning shark attack in Maui on Friday, authorities said. Police officers applied two tourniquets to control bleeding before the victim was taken to a hospital. First responders said the victim lost part of a leg just below a knee. Such closures after a shark attack usually span one mile in each direction. The Florida Museum of Natural History’s International Shark Attack File recorded 69 unprovoked bites and 22 provoked bites last year worldwide.
