Held in broad daylight in a tent on a beach in Santa Monica, the show has always been presented as the looser, hipper distant cousin of the Oscars — the outfits could also be somewhat described the same way.
Due to the time of day it’s held (2 p.m. PST), this is one place during awards season when the industry can kick off their heels, leave the evening gowns at home and show off their casual wares, which has the potential for interesting style choices.
