I took a boat tour that cruised by nearly all the major monuments in Paris and only cost about $20. I'd go on the tour again, and I recommend it to anyone visiting Paris. download the app Email address Sign up By clicking “Sign Up”, you accept our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy . After all this time, I still had one thing on my bucket list: Tour the city by boat. I took advantage of a good summer weather day and went on an hourlong tour with Vedettes de Paris that cost 20 euros, or about $22.

I'm an American in Paris, and I do my grocery shopping at the local market every week. I typically spend almost $150 a week, but it's worth it for the community feel. One of my favorite French traditions is going to the local market on Sundays to get produce, meat, cheese, and even street food. Nearly every Sunday, my husband and I go to the Marché Gisèle Halimi to do our shopping for the week. It's a bit more expensive than going to a regular grocery store, but I prefer to support the local market.

I moved from the US to Paris two years ago, and finding an apartment here was stressful. Paris can be expensive, which is why many (including me) live in the inner suburbs. AdvertisementWith over 11 million people living in the Paris metro area (the city and nearby suburbs), finding a house or apartment can be difficult. But it's one of the most expensive places to live, which is part of the reason only 2.2 million live in the actual city. Here's what it's really like to rent in or around Paris, from an American who's done it.

The Seine is a river that runs through Paris. Moriah CostaIf you want to do what the locals do, have a picnic by the Seine. But I still recommend taking in the views from the banks of the Seine no matter what time of year it is. The banks are pretty easy to get to, and there's room to bike, walk, or even run. Don't forget to check out the famous bouquinistes, who sell books and souvenirs from small wooden stands along the river.
