Police officers arrested 13 pro-Palestinian protesters on Wednesday who had barricaded themselves in the office of the president of Stanford University and demanded that administrators meet several demands, including a vote by the university trustees on whether to divest from companies that are said to support Israel's military. The protesters had entered the building around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and university police officers arrived at the scene after they were alerted of the occupation, according to Ms. Mostofi. The building houses the offices of the university’s president, Richard Saller, and provost, Jenny Martinez, among others. Wednesday is the final day of classes for the spring quarter at Stanford. An encampment that Pro-Palestinian protesters established in late April remains on a campus quad.

Police officers on Thursday night raided a complex at the University of California, Berkeley, that had been occupied by pro-Palestinian protesters, taking several people away in handcuffs. A university spokesman said at least 12 people had been arrested, but that the number was expected to grow. The new encampment sprang up at the Anna Head complex on Wednesday after demonstrators dismantled another larger camp earlier this week following a tentative agreement with university officials. Some in the splinter group remained overnight in the complex, a fire-damaged structure near People’s Park, while others camped in tents outside it, hanging Palestinian flags and spray-painting the area. Around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, dozens of officers from the California Highway Patrol and local police and sheriff’s departments began surrounding the area, using bullhorns to order protesters to disperse within 30 minutes or face arrest.

A scathing new report has found that it takes longer and costs more to build housing in San Francisco than anywhere else in California, exacerbating the state’s homelessness crisis and preventing many workers from being able to live in the city. But some local governments still give housing opponents generous leeway to slow or block projects. Governor Newsom’s housing division has determined that no city has put up more housing roadblocks than San Francisco, according to an investigation released on Wednesday.
