Angelo was paid by a Democratic political action committee for the post, a fact that’s clearly noted in the caption. Campaigning moves to social mediaIn 2024, political content posted by social media creators has become just as important as traditional celebrity endorsements — if not more. Together, the two organizations paid 15 social media creators to produce content encouraging Latinos to vote. Election advertisements are overseen by a different agency, the Federal Elections Commission, which lacks a similar disclosure rule for individuals who are paid to make endorsements on social media. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has since 2020 allowed paid political content from influencers, so long as the organization paying for it is registered in its ad library.

But it’s something politicians have struggled with achieving on their own — particularly amid an election cycle in which many young voters find themselves jaded with politics as a whole. Overall, young voters are not very optimistic right now, according to NBC News’ Stay Tuned Gen Z poll of over 2,600 voters under 30 in September. New York CNN —Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw was fired for cause by the railroad’s board for “engaging in a consensual relationship with the company’s chief legal officer,” who was also terminated, the railroad announced Wednesday evening. Shaw had been CEO of one of the nation’s four largest freight railroads for just over two years. And he received praise from some past critics of the railroads for steps he took after the February 2023 derailment in East Palestine to improve railroad safety. Still, Norfolk’s actions related to the derailment received harsh criticism from Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigated the accident. She said Norfolk Southern’s actions following the derailment put first responders and neighbors of the derailment site at unnecessary risk.

An era of cancel culture in the late 2010s saw creators rise and fall, most notably with what was dubbed "Karmageddon." "Fans are no longer passive consumers of content; they are active participants in holding creators accountable for their past and present actions," she said. This, she said, reflects "a broader cultural fatigue with the constant churn of content creators who appear authentic only to later reveal problematic pasts." A popular influencer apologized this week for her past racist posts on social media, prompting outrage from some Black creators who say they are tired of white creators constantly having their previous racist behavior unearthed without significant repercussions. Who is changing if this same thing happens like clockwork?” said creator Cameron Kira in a TikTok video, which stitched footage from her own 2023 video in which she addressed a different creator’s racist tweets. Some Black creators also said that they feel white creators who previously posted racist remarks emphasize that they have changed with little evidence to suggest they have. She said it wasn’t until after college that she began to “shift her way of thinking.”In a follow-up video, Schofield said she “missed the mark” in her first attempt and directed her second apology to Black viewers.
