New York AP —A New York woman is challenging the longstanding rules of Miss America and Miss World that disqualify mothers from their beauty pageants. Joe Frederick/APSpokespersons for the Miss America and Miss World pageant organizations didn’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment Monday. A spokesperson for the human rights commission said the agency does not comment on open investigations. Allred noted that she previously had success challenging a similar rule for a California mother denied eligibility to compete in the Miss California pageant, which is part of the Miss Universe and Miss USA organizations. Didusenko, who has since created an organization advocating for an end to beauty pageant bans on mothers, said she lost her legal challenge in Ukraine but is seeking relief from the European Court of Human Rights.

Sandra, a Gen Xer, recently moved from the Los Angeles area to the beaches of North Carolina. While the weather isn't as ideal, North Carolina has been a pleasant surprise. AdvertisementAdvertisementSandra decided that instead of retirement by the beaches of Los Angeles, she'd instead enjoy life by the North Carolina shore. Even though she said insurance is a bit higher in North Carolina given the prevalence of hurricanes, her taxes have been cut by around half. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe more diverse politics of her area — since North Carolina is a purple state — was also a plus over deep red South Carolina, she said.

Calli Edington and her family moved from California to Georgia. My family and I lived in a small town in northern California called Magalia, 90 miles north of Sacramento. So we packed up and moved to Douglas, Georgia because we wanted a slower pace of life, and we absolutely love it here. AdvertisementAdvertisementOur family loves Georgia and we don't see ourselves going back to California. My husband and I both worked 9-to-5 jobs in California, and we still weren't able to afford a house.

We canned our own tomatoes and turned ice cream by hand but also traveled to the East Coast for b’nai mitzvah. This summer a little town of a few thousand near my family’s farm held a Pride parade — for the fourth time. There’s even a small queer community at the little high school I attended. These so-called red states are their home, and many of them will raise families there. Kansas was, after all, the first state to reject — resoundingly — an effort to roll back abortion access after Roe was struck down.

CNN —Years before he said he was running for president to “defeat the cult of gender ideology,” Donald Trump welcomed and praised the inclusion of transgender women in the Miss Universe pageant. He then later effusively praised the winner of the Miss USA pageant, Olivia Culpo, for saying that transgender women should be allowed to compete. Transgender contestant Jenna Talackova takes part in Miss Universe Canada competition in Toronto, May 19, 2012. Mark Blinch/ReutersTrump, then the owner of the Miss Universe pageant, would go on to cite the possible participation of transgender women in Olympic sports to justify his decision to end a ban on transgender pageant participants. “And you have the Miss Canada, which is essentially the Miss Universe.

March 31 (Reuters) - A judge has rejected Amazon.com Inc's (AMZN.O) bid to dismiss California's antitrust lawsuit accusing the online retailer of illegally forcing merchants to accept policies that cause consumers to pay artificially high prices. California Attorney General Rob Bonta had sued Seattle-based Amazon last September. The lawsuit sought to block Amazon from enforcing policies that bar the sale of goods more cheaply elsewhere, and to pay damages and penalties. Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine is appealing a judge's March 2022 dismissal of his similar lawsuit against Amazon. The case is California v Amazon.com Inc, Superior Court of California, San Francisco County, No.
