CNN —Undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk was released after being detained by law enforcement at Krakow Airport in Poland, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday. Speaking on social media, Usyk – the undisputed heavyweight champion – said “a misunderstanding took place” but that the incident “was quickly resolved.”“Thanks to all who got concerned. Usyk speaks to reporters after becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion earlier this year. Earlier this year, Usyk beat Tyson Fury in a razor-thin split decision to become the undisputed heavyweight world champion. He became the first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis 25 years ago, with the Briton winning all three belts available at that time.

ISLAMABAD — Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers have issued a ban on women’s voices and bare faces in public under new laws approved by the supreme leader in efforts to combat vice and promote virtue. The Taliban had set up a ministry for the “propagation of virtue and the prevention of vice” after seizing power in 2021. The ministry published its vice and virtue laws on Wednesday that cover aspects of everyday life such as public transportation, music, shaving and celebrations. They are set out in a 114-page, 35-article document seen by The Associated Press and are the first formal declaration of vice and virtue laws in Afghanistan since the takeover. It also says the elimination of vice involves prohibiting people from doing things forbidden by Islamic law.

CNN —Russian authorities were on Monday evacuating civilians from more areas along the Ukrainian border, a week into Kyiv’s surprise cross-border incursion into Russian territory. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region in southern Russia, said people living in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district were being relocated to safer places. A photo provided by the Government of Kursk region of Russia shows people from the border districts of the region boarding evacuation buses. Russian authorities imposed a sweeping counter-terror operation in the three border regions, but stopped short of declaring the incursion an act of war. The counterterrorist regime officially gives Russian authorities wider powers, including the ability to monitor telephone conversations and restrict communications and limiting the movement of people.

Iranian officials are condemning what they say was an Israeli strike on Tehran that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Palestinian militant organization Hamas and Iran's Revolutionary Guard issued separate statements confirming the death of the longtime political leader of Hamas early Wednesday and blamed Israel, which has not yet commented on Haniyeh's death. Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani and former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Mohsen Rezaei, in separate comments said that Israel will "pay a heavy price," according to Iranian state media. Tehran and other countries that do not recognize the state of Israel frequently refer to it as "the Zionist regime." Satellite images have revealed that several Pantsir-S1 air defense systems have been installed in the vicinity of the presidential residence on Lake Valdai in Novgorod region. The Valdai residence could be a high-profile target, as Putin is known to be spending time there during the summer. CNN has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry for comment but has not received a response. Satellite image provided by Maxar Technologies shows an air defense system near the summer residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
