CNN —It was near the end of an unusual day for the four Patterson children when the deputies came to arrest their mother. Robertson called the boy’s mother and tried to get some answers. In a phone interview, he said the Patterson case was “a complete misuse and a stretch of the statute.”It was not the first time authorities used this law in relation to parenting. She called to her son, the one whose spontaneous walk had started all this, and told him to call her mother. “Call Daddy and tell him they’re takin’ me to jail,” Patterson said.

A Georgia mother was arrested and accused of allegedly endangering her son — all because the unsupervised 10-year-old walked less than a mile away from home, officials said. "It's not a super dangerous or even dangerous at all stretch of road," Patterson told NBC News, in an interview that aired Wednesday. Patterson refuses to sign this form and said she'll contest this charge that carries up a year behind bars. Patterson's lawyer David DeLugas rhetorically asked if mothers and fathers now have to know the precise location of their children at all times. "Are all parents going to have to put GPS on their child?"
